I'm shooting for a Masters in IT management (First the Bachelors, of course) because I've always had a knack for technical things. (And the GI BILL offers better benefits for such a study).
My novel is a Transitional Fantasy. It starts on/around current day. By the end of the series I wish to achieve the traditional fantasy setting. I'm not in any particular rush as I've been working on this idea for about six years.
The novel, in short, is about Mind over Matter.
The long version: Mental Alterations Garrisoned In Control has once more been grasped and employed for power. The promise of this unique gift to common man arms a militia designed to overthrow the world. Leading from the front, Marcus Levy Lzuru sparks dissension and destruction world-wide as he searches for the legendary Template that he believes is within the Ark of the Covenant. Logunese Liberatus, a college student, is unwittingly caste into the middle of this fray for reasons unknown and is inevitably forced to race Lzuru through the puzzles of history in order to save the world.
I could have written a better summary, but that's the gist. The primary variable of the story line is magic: how it exists, how it works, and why. I'm tying it into the history of many a religion, culture, and secret society. Magic, in this story, is based on the theory of Zero-Point Energy and the Zero Dimension. I'm focusing more on the obscure "legends" of religion as to avoid the outcome if I did otherwise. It's still up in the air - thankfully crumpled paper is no longer required. Now I just toss the files into an "old" folder in case I feel like using old ideas in future works.
Thankfully, most of the footwork and research has been done. Now it's just getting the flow and flux of the story to fit with the fast-paced world-wide alterations and the deadly encounters between the forces of evil and the protagonist.
Whew!
And yes, I wouldn't mind swapping and critiquing. Opinions are nice to receive. It'll be hard, at the moment, as I keep tossing versions of my work into the 'old' folder. I'm trying to enhance my skills before I truly attempt to tackle this beast, but opinions and observations are highly valued regardless. The reader, after all, must journey through my world.
