This is where I express my feelings, thoughts and views on various matters.
I agree with the idea that the way one expresses one's self through speech, gestures, likes and dislikes among many other things depict his/her personality.

I got further evidence of this as I skimmed through the portfolios of many of my fellow members here. Just looking at the type of pieces they create and the titles they assign, we can guess a lot about the writer. Of course, the style of writing and narration gives many hints too. Thus, this makes our writing a part of who we are.

This is just a passing thought I had just now. *Smile*

If someone were to donate a million dollars in your name to a charity of your choice, which charity would it be and why? (No, you don't count as a charity... think philanthropically! Wink)

*Shock*A Million Dollars! *whistles* Thats a lot of money, which I can only see in my dreams!

Anyway, jokes apart. . . If someone were to donate a million dollars in my name to a charity of my choice, it would be to a charity which works for the welfare of women. This is because, in general, women in my country, especially those who are underprivileged, are looked down upon, ill treated, harassed and taken advantage of, right from their birth. So, whichever NGO or charity home goes forward to help such women in any kind of way, I will readily extend a helping hand.*Heart*

Some NGOs help women by teaching them handcrafting, some others provide educational opportunities for girls and women, some provide support to those who experience dowry harassment and sexual abuse and few more help women in all the ways I have mentioned above.

A country needs all the sexes' well being, to progress healthily.

What's your favorite Olympic event? Do you like the Winter Olympics or Summer Olympics better? Why?

Gymnastics is my favourite Olympic event. Though I do not follow Olympics religiously, whenever I switch on the TV to watch Olympics, I would not flip the channel if it is Gymnastics. I like to watch the amazingly complex jumps, flips and turns done by gymnasts.

Once upon a time, I had an interest to learn gymnastics, but due to enormous study load I had to forget about it. But, I have no regrets.

I like the Winter Olympics better. I agree, the Summer Olympics has more variety of events but, as I am a person living in a tropical country, I have not experienced snowfall. I am naturally curious to know how people in regions of snow interact with their environment. I am a fan of figure skating and snowboarding.

#20 Prompt of Blog Harbour's Winter Blogging Challenge

Day 20 prompt: It's time for a little creative writing! In honor of such a great NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and 49ers earlier, write a poem or a flash fiction story (500 words max) about football... or another sport of your choosing.

In my country Cricket is the hot favorite sport, though our national sport is Hockey. Here's a flash fiction about cricket, and how addictive it can be.

"Dinner's ready!" called out Mrs. Kashyap, from the kitchen. Her family was glued to the television in the hall, since afternoon.
She rolled her eyes. Probably, the whole country was as hooked to it as her family was. It was the World Cup Final of One Day Internationals of cricket after all, India versus Pakistan. Pakistan's involvement gave half of the excitement, she thought.

She waited for ten minutes after laying the table. Let Pakistan win, for all she cared. It was not as if this game would better the relations between the two countries. The whole point of cricket was entertainment and TRP ratings for the sports channels. This was the way the common man's precious time got wasted. India could have developed so much faster if people had not stuck themselves to their TV sets all day and gone about their work.

"Are you people coming or not? Dinner's getting cold!" she cried, stomping to the hall.

"Shhh!" hissed her husband and her son simultaneously, "We need six runs from one ball to win!"

"Oh!" just like that she too got hooked. Together they followed the bowler run up towards the pitch, ball in hand.
Her heart was in her mouth; anything could happen in one ball - he could get out or get a couple of runs or get a no ball if lucky or...

She crossed her fingers as she saw the batsman swing the bat.

"ITS A SIX!"

Fireworks reigned the sky outside, the next moment.

What is your favorite holiday and why? What is your least favorite holiday and why?

In my country there is no dearth of holidays. Almost every month has atleast two holidays (there are not enough emoticons to represent the holidays of India! *Pthb*).

But I am not very religious and we celebrate only a couple of festivals. I like them because of the goodies which are prepared for that day. It is the festival of Lord Ganesh, the Elephant God and his mother, Gowri.
The festival of Gowri comes first and females of the house pray to her for her blessings and strength to them and their family. The next day is Ganesh Chaturthi, the birthday of Ganesh. This God is worshipped on this day and the favourite food of Ganesh is prepared.

My least favourite holiday....I don't think there is any, because I celebrate only the two I mentioned above and don't really care about the others....

#18th prompt of Blog Harbour's Winter Blogging Challenge:

What personal quality (e.g. honesty, kindness, faith, loyalty, etc.) do you value more than anything else? If you could guarantee a significant other be completely unfailing in this area, would you put up with serious flaws in other areas (e.g. always kind but lies to spare your feelings, always honest but to the point of unknowingly being hurtful, etc.) to achieve the perfect partner in the area you value most?

The quality which I value above anything else is responsibility. If one accepts to do a job or take responsibility for something or someone, he or she must keep the word.

I cannot trust a someone who is irresponsible. For example, if a person tells me that he will meet me at a particular place and at a particular time, and does not turn up, without stating a reason beforehand.

A person would be in my good books if he shows the quality of responsibility, either towards me or towards someone else. I can know I can depend on him.

If my significant other was lacking in the area of responsibility, I would teach him to be responsible.

If someone wanted to really push your buttons, what would they do to provoke you?

I'm usually someone who is calm and composed, even when someone swears at me in vulgar language (In such a case, I think that - I know what I am, and don't give a crap about it).

But I am not perfect! I too have some buttons which, when pushed, get me off. Here are a few:

1. Nagging me when I am doing something important. I will grin and bear it for a duration of ten minutes or so. After that, the person has it*Angry*
2. Insisting me to be guilty of something when I am truly innocent.

Now that my little emotional buttons are out, I hope you keep them to yourself :)

Prompt #16 of the Winter Blogging Challenge of Blog Harbor

Take a trip down memory lane (of your web history). What was the last thing you looked up online and why were you looking it up?

The last thing I looked up online was the list of celebrities who were born on the same day as me*Wink*

I just got that sudden thought in my mind... Wouldn't it be exciting to know which of the famous personalities of the world you share your birthday with? *CakeB*

I got a list of names, most of whom I was not familiar with, except...

Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl who stood up against the Taliban and

Pablo Neruda, a Chilean poet. I particularly liked his poem titled 'Keeping Quiet'

*RainbowL*I feel fortunate to share my birthday with these two wonderful people!

I could not come online yesterday as I had been away on a holiday with my family*Cab* . Both my dad and I had a holiday yesterday for the local festival of harvest.

*Tree3*We went to our neighbouring district, Coorg, which is famed for its lush green scenery of coffee plantations and hills. We had booked a room in an ethnic resort. This resort was situated somewhere away from the madding crowd of the town. It was the perfect getaway.

The surroundings were lovely and peaceful. The air was fresh and unpolluted. We could hear the birds chirping away to glory. The climate, as expected, was cool, but we did not mind it.
During dinner, the resort arranged cultural programmes for all the guests, showcasing the traditional songs and dances of our State. It was an enjoyable evening.

We expected the night to be as calm as the day, with only the chirping of crickets instead of the birds'. But we got a bolt from the blue, disturbing all the peace we had collected throughout the day. The resort next door, which was (mis)named 'Coorg Village House' (A rough translation), was blasting popular film numbers!

We had to go to bed, with the noise booming on our ears and heads, resolving to find peace within ourselves, rather than from the surroundings!

It is Sunday today, the day to lay back and relax. I woke up at a leisurely hour, and hummed and hawed for half an hour before coming down for breakfast. I did not mean to dawdle but come on, its a Sunday - The day when you are not expected to hurry up to go to college!

I ate a heavy breakfast, savouring a P. G. Wodehouse novel alongside. *Reading*

Then I gathered my towel and stepped into the bathroom to take a refreshing bath.

A sore sight welcomed me. A week long dirty laundry sat there mocking at me. My lazy plans were all shattered.

It dawned on me that just as I counted on Sundays for leisure, I also wanted Sundays for doing my laundry *Sad*

Many people say that the world nowadays has become too fast to be good. We don't have time to stop for a while and enjoy the fleeting moments of leisure. We don't have time for those who love us. We have to forgo our interests and hobbies due to 'lack of time'. We have deadlines to meet, bosses to please, clients to flatter and a number of tasks to juggle one after the other

Right from our childhood, we are taught to do things quickly. Like, for example, the one who finishes his food first gets the largest share of dessert or the one who completes his homework soon gets to play video games. We have races even for animals. {e :FacePalm}

But finally, what's the point? We are so used to going on the fast track, that we don't realise when we should take a break or when we can afford to slow down. This makes us stressful. This stress in turn drives us to the Yoga and meditation classes, where we learn to unlearn our pace, learn to take things slow and easy. We have to work down all the years of working up...

Instead of blaming the world, why not take the time to relax when we can and be fully aware of whatever we doing, from now itself? In the end, it is up to us, isn't it?
