I feel that pain, but in the reverse. Most were surprised when they found out I like sports, played sports, catch a few games on the television when I have some free time. I don't know if it was my demeanor or that I was a girl that throws most off, but I can be a rabid fan at times. I apologize profusely though because no one should have to go through tormenting conversations like that for not liking sports.
I'm with you on the sports topic. I sometimes will watch college football but not often. I played baseball in high school and ran middle distance track (one mile) but basically because doing so meant my dad would let me shirk my chores to practice and to do my homework so my grades wouldn't stop me from playing. Aside from that I didn't give a rat about sports. Basketball, golf, and hockey make no sense to me whatsoever. My wife always yammered on about basketball because she played center in high school and college. I guess that meant she played in the middle of the stadium or something.
I never could figure golf out. All I ever knew about it was that I wanted one of those little carts to putt around in. Okay bad pun. The only negative numbers I could ever relate to were sub zero temperatures and they can keep those.
Football is another one I could never figure out. Why would heterosexual men want to climb on top of each other?
Welcome back, and bless you, gesundheit, and whatever! Ah, this blog plucks the confessions, doesn't it? I'm not a sports afficionado either, but I suppose it's to be expected of a dude. I'm Canadian and world impressions have me salivating over hockey, huh, as if... No, my Mom was enough of a wild, rabid hockey fan for the two of us. We were forced, as kids, to slowly back out of the basement rec room during hockey games. We left Mom screaming at the deaf umps, or is that referees, jumping up and down on the couch, threatening the officials with bodily harm, and throwing things at the t.v. screen. Thank God, not one of us actually dared to play real hockey. What's that old saying? If you don't know how to play, just fake it.
Ah, thank you for clearing that up. Speaking of an actor spitting one out... I dunno, you spin quite the story... I love your description of the Sister! As a child you wouldn't need her to snap, "Look at me!" You'd be fascinated.
I spent a semester in a local public school as a teachers helper. This gave me access to the teachers lounge at lunch time. information was passed from one teacher to another about what they could expect in the way of truth from one student or another. Why they would give you a pass I don't know but if they were aware of regular problems you brought to school they may have just figured it was something they could not actually stop by acknowledging it.
