It’s simple enough to do
And nothing at all to prove
Just got to find your Swoove.
Hold a little shrub in your fist
Add swoops with a flocky wrist
It can be great even looking like … THIS!!!
It’s simple enough to do
But please don’t use your pooh
Go find what truly moves you!

Track 6 ('89)
Tom Petty - Free Fallin'
I hear this song on the radio to this day and I still find myself singing it at the top of my lungs. I am really not into a lot of old songs, despite what this list of tracks are leading you to believe. You see, I get snippets of songs or lyrics in my head constantly. Does not matter the time of day, I get one shotted (hit in the head) by these melodies. Then, I have to go google it down until I can hear the entire song on YouTube.
This isn't one of those songs. I know it pretty well. And love it pretty well too.

Track 7 ('90)
New Kids On The Block - Step By Step
*Laugh* ... *Cry* ...
I can't really think of anything to write without cracking up laughing. Or wanting to puke. Oh the tNKOtB ... *Heart* "Step 3: It's Just You And Me" *Singing like pig squeals* <insert more laugher and vomit traces>

Track 8 ('91)
Boyz II Men - Motown Philly
e b c bb d? I still don't know what they're saying but it is still fantastic. Songs like this, talking about how they got famous was a novelty back then, now it's mainstream and everyone's doing it. A Bit Overdone now, but this is a rhythm and blues hip hop mashup classic... If that even makes sense?!
There just can't be a soundtrack of an 90s chick without some R&B! ... Maybe...

Track 9 ('92)
Céline Dion - If You Ask Me To
If you asked me what my favorite Dion Célion song, I just might give you this song. It's so pure and innocent. Something I am no longer, but wish it to be so. I do, however, feel like each time I fall in love it's like I have this song on repeat. Whipping around the same heartsick mountain, hoping and trying and then coming up short to finding love eternal.
I don't even think that I am getting any closer each time either. It feels like I'm grasping at straws each time and they keep getting shorter and shorter. I don't even know what is going on, whether it's my intention or not to do this fall from true love. I seem to pick them worse and worse each time. It always starts out great, by the way. Then after a handful of months... I get to really see them for who they really are, or aren't.
And it's really hard to walk away, but I guess sometimes it's better (healthier) than hanging on to a prayer (that things will change) and staying.
If something's meant to be, it will be.

Drunk Driving
The worst part of drinking is remembering. It happens. It sucks. Eventually you get over it and do it again... and again... until you develop such a hatred of drinking alcohol and your drunken antics.
It is no mystery what the substance does to your brain and body, yet it remains legal to a limit, but legal nonetheless. This irritates me. There is DWIs and DUIs that mainly deal with drunk driving. This is to deter people from actually driving drunk. But it doesn't. I've done it. I've done it a few times. Being sheltered for so long, I guess, I just needed to take some deadly risks.
Driving Drunk is not fun. It is probably the least fun activity of being alive. You have less control and that means slower reactions. I remember driving a boyfriend at the time, who was drunker than I, and I got so sober so quickly i was having a migraine while driving and feeling like I wanted to get home and sleep.
At the same time, I had to drive his car for the first time. Our conversation was stupid. It was the worst conclusion of a date in my entire life. And silly me, I continued to date him until he stopped contact with me entirely (so kind of him, schmuck)

Moderation
I hate alcohol. I hate it but i sometimes still partake in the common past time. Though, the most I drink now is 4 ounces over the course of 5 hours. This love-hate relationship only happens because the guy I am with now likes to have a couple of drinks but doesn't want to drink alone. So, I sip on the drinks he gets. Rum cokes. I don't even like Coke. But I sip on it anyway.
It doesn't taste that bad though as far as mixed drinks go. I actually like it better than my college mix drink of choice--Sprite vodka. They just taste to strong for my adult tastes.
I've done some pretty stupid things that don't involve drunk driving. One instance involved kissing a date of a friend who wasn't drinking (so it just goes to show you the nature of the guy, no?) ...

What It Comes Down To
All in all, I don't plan to drink, when I do drink I don't drink much and I make sure that there's plenty of time before I get behind the wheel to go home or elsewhere. I try to spend my time with people who aren't alcoholics.
I don't know how to end this entry. I can to on and on about why I don't drink (even though I am in an Irish/German/Italian family). But I won't. It's ridiculousness let me tell you, to have to say "No" and "I am sure." to your family, immediate and extended.

Take care of your esophagus,
Rose

There is nothing worse than being stooped over the can heaving your insides out for the outside world to see... Well, yes, there is. It's remember it. It's sad, but true. I was a big party-er in my first year at college. (Isn't everyone? -- Even if it's not true for you, just pretend).

So picture a nice cold toilet and your best friend holding your hair back (or clothes), and all the obscene drinks and concoctions that you had just ingested that night pouring back out before your eyes. It really doesn't make it better those nice, kind words that he/she is whispering in your ear. The more stuff that comes out the better you can clearly think that you've been a complete idiot... (and possibly, a repeat offender).

Hi Rose,

Sure! Find a song about a season, then write a poem or short story about the feelings it evokes in you. Then write about why you chose that song and season.

Good luck!

So first thing’s first….
1.) Find a song about a season
2.) Write about the feelings it evokes within
3.) write about why I chose the song and season

The first songs that comes to mind is:
Rent – Seasons of Love   *Heart*
The Byrds – Turn! Turn! Turn!   *Bird*

Which aren’t about a particular season but saying that everything in general has the potential to be a season and what to do about it. I guess that’s one way to look at this prompt.

Seasons of Love is from the musical Rent. It evokes painful loves-lost memories within me, and almost always leaves me breathless and crying. It's not a happy place, in any sense, but it is a remembrance of what has made me into the loving creature that I am today. Regardless of the hardships that flash back at me, I can see it for what it was--love's lessons--and they are not to be feared. They are to be celebrated and praised. I survived, and am thriving because of it.

Funny, though, how I am envious of those people out there in the world that can measure life in days or something other than love, but I truly can't. And that's OK. I've come to this realization within the last few years. I am OK with being a sensitive romantic.

Hopefully, someone reading might find the same sort of peace this song brings me--albiet a wet one. *Rain*

And for your viewing pleasure...
I've selected some lyric snips of Rent - Seasons of Love (Click toggle view/hide)

Survey says:
1. Find a song about a season
2. Write about the feelings it evokes within
3. write about why I chose the song and season

80% of my prompt. Not bad?

Well, technically, I picked ALL seasons... So do I get extra credit?

Jack Handey's Fuzzy Memories is more or less a laugh-inducing read. I especially liked this one:

"If I could go back and change one thing in my life, I think it would be
that time I found that one-dollar bill on the sidewalk. I would change
it to a million-dollar bill."

It's funny and clever. It gets you thinking of all the times you found money just laying there.

And then you think, "Well, yeah, I'd change it to a million-dollar bill!" Because it suddenly makes sense, everything clicks into place. All you need to do is continue day dreaming that if some rich person happened to drop a million-dollar bill on the ground, YOU would be the one to find it. Let's face it. You wouldn't have found it.

Besides, who would carry a million-dollar bill around in their pocket. Maybe in their wallet, but even so... No one would do this. You never hear of people becoming instant millionaires from foundmoney.com or actual found money on the ground.

People with that much money have credit cards. And you wouldn't even know how much money they have, because they all look the same. Plastic and small and utterly ridiculous.

You can thank digital banking for that. And kiss your dreams of stumbling upon a million-dollar bill goodbye.

But heck, I nearly cried and had a panic attack when I lost a twenty. I'd hate to be the proverbial guy that lost the million.

My own Deep Thoughts:
If the world could be changed by a few good people, why hasn't anyone found them yet?
Ever wonder why the deeper you think, the crazier you feel?
Don't be hard on yourself, because others will.

Funny Facts:
Ever see a toilet in the wild? That's because, human beings are not meant to use them.
The shorter your pointer/index finger, the sharper your tongue .

For Day Five...

Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn (1988)
[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

This is rock rolling nearly over into country. But It's good, very good. I like the lyrics, no matter what I am going through. Even if I am not going through a break up or something similar, I still feel connected to this song.

It might have something to do with the fact that I am a Rose, and I definitely have thorns.

The refrain/chorus of the song is catchy as anything. I do believe that there are tributes and covers and redos. But this is the best version, as in most things--the original.

Back in the day, civilization as they knew it to be must have had their tribulations with communicating among tribes. Messengers, perhaps, sent back and forth on foot to deliver a message by word of mouth, only to receive a reply to remember and "carry" back home. And back and forth, again and again, this probably evolved into what is now known as the telephone game. *Laugh*

Time goes by and civilization evolves a bit. Now messengers are sent back and forth on horseback. Still using verbal messaging system that has a huge window for human error, though not as much as before--thanks to the speed of the horse.

Fast forward. Still messengers sent back and forth on horseback, but now the clothing is improved as well as language. Verbal messages are now transcribed onto parchment via quill and ink (or sticks and blood on hide... ) then rolled up into tubes, some fancy ones were attached to and rolled around a wooden stick and tied closed with a string. (Fancy.)

Now a big jump forward... take the paper with the written language on it and stick it in a flat, yet boxy looking holder that is also made out of paper that gets mixed with others of the same nature from the same area of the land. This batch or satchel full or carriage full of written messages gets carted by 2- horse carriages from area to area.

Next ... With the improvement of transportation, planes, trains and automobiles, letters were able to be delivered so much quicker.(Get a feeling that people like things fast...)

Eventually gas and coal powered vehicles weren't cutting it so some people decided to run with a clever fellows idea of a telephone. This machine worked much like a light-bulb but instead of electricity traveling, it was sounds. from one town to another.

Pretty soon little voice transmitters and receivers were popping up in every household. Rich, poor, middle class--it didn't matter-they were relatively priced and available for most everyone (but probably not for the homeless).

"Gosh, such improvements. But wait, it can still be improved!" Said Scientists everywhere.

The phone evolved after many prototypes into a cordless version, to a car version, then to a cell version--a wireless and satellite communication of amazing.

But scientists are still not resting.

Computers popped out of a one room lab and shrunk to a mesh up with a cellphone. And still... Cellphones are shrinking and gaining more power. Even the power to cause cancer... (But everything can, now...)

Email, the fastest form of communication?
Cellphone, the easiest form?

So the idea is to come up with a soundtrack to your life.... and so...
My first pick is one that is also a title soundtrack of a very famous movie ... This song came out in 84 when I was born, so my list starts here:

Feb 1st Track = Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters
[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

I would kill for a Ghostbusters shirt. When ever someone says: "Who are you/we going to call?" I want to burst out: "Ghostbusters!!" (And, sometimes.. do!) Just like the song states (over and over) "I ain't afraid of no ghosts" ... Or am I?:

There are many out there who do complain
I am quite unsure whether to board the train.

The paranormal genre is extremely overdone,
but I am not going to just get scared and run.

There are some great thrillers that I may enjoy,
Though at times, I have to bring to bed a toy.

If anyone out there has any to recommend,
Please, drop a line or two, or an email send.

Feb 2nd Track = DeBarge - Rhythm of the Night (1985)

There are just some songs that never fail to put a smile on your face. This is one of those songs for me. Plus, I end up dancing by the end of the song, even if it's just in my computer chair while watching the vevo. I am a big lover of dancing, social or privately. It just feels good to do it. It's not a bad addiction either.

Sway.
Bob and sway.
Sway.
Bob and nod.

Now, you're dancing too.

Feb 3rd Track = Bruce Hornsby and the Range - The Way It Is (1986)

This song just keeps coming back in other songs, and it's a beautiful thing. I love this song. It's a bit pessimistic, but so what. It's an upbeat tune that gets me moving regardless of the reason. If you don't like it, oh well.... That's just the way it is....

Feb 4th Track = M.A.R.R.S. - Pump Up The Volume (1987)

*Laugh* This song is … *Smile*

On the YouTube page a couple of former debutantes were chatting about the song playing and being asked to dance by a really good dancer…

This got me thinking about my college days when I went clubbing a few times. It was nothing like a debutante ball or anything upscale. I just remember dancing and having a guy dance with me that I never seen before or again. I wasn't dressed for the club atmosphere or anything and was completely out of place there. I didn't even drink much.

I am a little hazy on the fine details, but I think I was the designated driver.

On the bright side, I don’t talk to that girl anymore. Actually, we broke off all ties pretty soon after since she was a senior and I was a freshman at the time. And thus ended my clubbing experience.

Good riddance!

Pfft,
I don’t have a muse.
But I enjoy a song or two
Or a read or dozens,
A hot home meal
A pot of herbal tea,
Together make a great team
But solo do the same thing.
Brainstorming out loud
Or singing in the shower,
Recording either may be funny
After the playback is heard.
To credit an entity of a muse
Would be a ridiculous crime
Especially when the ideas I use
Were, are and always will be
Mine.

I typically don't remember that every February 2 is this strange weather foretelling tradition that involves some rodent-thing of which I have only had the privilege of seeing once in my life.

The silly bugger was running away from my noisy footfalls. I did not even know it was there until I heard it run away. Its tail was like a rudder keeping the poor frightened creature from falling on its face, no doubt. I wish I had a rudder. I would be a heck of lot less clumsy. Though my rule of thumb is if I have yet to hit the ground, I'm A-OK! (Of course, that's without taking into consideration falling into things and hurting myself…)

In addition to my one-time sighting of a Groundhog, I have seen the movie Caddy Shack, with its horrendous (hilarious too, but only for a few seconds) portrayal of groundhogs. The catchy song the animatron dances to in the movie is taking over my mind as I write.

I have, also, seen the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray. The Production Company "Columbia Pictures" attempted to recreate Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania's 1992 Groundhog Day celebration, but ended up with a "different, yet similar" rendition of the festival.

Punxsutawney’s Phil (the town's groundhog) eats dog food and ice cream, very different from his wild brother's and sister's diet of dandelions, clovers, and grass. You should see his accommodations before "preforming"…

More recently, Animal Rights group PETA demanded Punxsy Phil to be replaced by a robot. Apparently, PETA was not aware that he's had many "wives", is 125+ years old (gets a daily life-prolonging elixir), his home is climate-controlled, gets fed ice cream (and Nature Valley Granola bars!), has his own posse--The Inner Circle, and his own transport--The Phil-mobile, and his stage (a fabricated tree stump-borrow) is nicely heated before making his predictions. Probably one of the best treated woodchucks around! (Lives better than me.)

The entire Groundhog Day tradition has roots in the German Candlemas Day and Pagan Imbolc celebrations. Regardless of the name or culture, the day falls halfway between Winter Solstice (start of winter) and Spring Equinox (beginning of spring). If the weather was fair, sunny and bright; the winter would continue to be stormy and cold.

For as the sun shines on Candle-mas Day,
So far will the snow swirl until May.
For as the snow blows on Candlemas Day,
So far will the sun shine before May.

Whether superstition or not, the forecasting of double winter weather is approximately 40% accurate (39% for Punxsy Phil). So, I would say that is pretty faulty, right? But are not all forecasters 40% accurate, and just as faulty? Is meteorology not the one career you can still be a success after being wrong repeatedly?

For me it definitely seems worth noting a few famous people that were born on a Groundhog Day. They include but are not limited to Farrah Fawcett in 1947, Garth Brooks in 1962, and Shakira in 1977. Oh, bless my heart, I am completely thrilled, now, to share my birthday with a Turkey, occasionally. Plus, I like to eat.

I hope you enjoyed your time here.

Have a blistery Winter day! (Unless your in a tropical area… Then, sunblock up!)

    Rose *Skunk*

PS: Thank you to StormFax.Com   for the informative read up.
And The Penn Live Blog   for some interesting facts.

Also, groundhog is also called a woodchuck which evidently is a member of the squirrel family. Something I just learned and *Heart* completely love *Heart* that it's true!
