Hybrids are illegal, a death sentence to all involved in the making or protection.

Ash is a Hybrid. Generally this would mean death is stalking her like lion about to pounce on an antelope. However, Ash isn't playing the age old game her ancestors played. She's Royalty and she isn't about to let the world forget it. Her father was King Kiel's only brother and early in her life she was determined to take the throne from her Uncle, overthrowing the monarchy to allow for the Democracy the Rebellion is calling for. Having matured, she's seen the truth; all that revolution nonsense was purely childish angst.
Known now as the Black Queen, a nickname given to her for her peculiar past and shocking feeding habits, she's put her revolutionary thoughts to bed and embraced her new future. One without war and death. Correction, without war, as Ash is no stranger to death, having been the hand that's ended many lives.
Four years she's ruled LA without so much as a whisper from the King, but when the wolves decide to come back to LA and claim the valley that was once theirs, the resulting conflict draws the wrath of the far-way King, putting Ash in mortal danger.
Even worse than the danger she faces from the King, is the danger she faces from herself and her past. Ruthless, cruel, and numb, emotions are a weakness to Ash. And her husband is the greatest weakness of them all. As hard as she tries there's no escaping him now that he has returned, the ceremony they performed doesn't allow for divorces and the bond has only grown stronger during their estrangement.
In the end, Ash must make the ultimate decision. Save her soul or condemn them both. Her fate, his fate, even Kiel's fate, rests in her hands.
