This is the beginnings of a fantasy novel that I am working on.
Introduction

For a long time I had wanted to write a fantasy story but like many things I was struggling to find the right theme/setting and characters, this was until I stumbled across an idea.

It was in the summer of 2016 that I was going through some of my collections that have grown over the years, you see I like to collect things no; not weird things like dolls heads or famous fingernail clippings. No my collections are from comics and sports programmes to cigarette cards and trade cards, it is from the last one that my idea had sprouted from, I must have over a thousand different trade cards alone which range from Top Trumps, Star Wars, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering, Chaotic, Dr Who and many others.

Then if you had to this my love for playing Mass Multi-player Role Playing Games all be it online or not, I do consider myself a good player of the Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft games. However, like many others, I have dabbled in other titles as well, with other games such as Aion and Runescape being other good ones to play. Now I am trying my hand at the Oblivion online version for the PS4, so if you are reading this and you do play any of these games, have a look for a Fuzzy Duck? That will most likely be me.

Therefore, I came up with the idea to use some of these cards as prompts for different characters, settings, abilities and so on, but this then went further and I decided not just to write the one story about these colourful and interesting cards of fantasy, finally I hope that I have found my genre and more fabulous fantasy fables will follow on from this one. I decided to select six from each pile so to speak, six from a pile for characters, six from a pile for abilities and six for the setting (i.e. nature). Therefore, with eighteen different cards from the differing makers that I have collected over the years, I came up with the following story and hopefully if this weird idea takes off then I will select another eighteen or so cards and turn them into this fairy tale kind of story for you all to enjoy.

Out of the eighteen cards that were randomly selected for this story, there are eight Magic the Gathering trade cards and five from each of the Chaotic and Yu-Gi-Oh! Trade cards, I will not go into naming them singularly, that would just give the game away! However, I will have a description of each card used at the end of the book. For you collective fanatics let us see if you can guess which ones that I used for characters etc. (good luck).

I do not consider myself a good drawer or sketcher; I cannot paint, even if it is by numbers! However, what I did want to do was to at least include some kind of visual reference to Stravlok’s Journey. Therefore, the maps and images of whatever quality you come across in the following pages are all of my own work, yes they looked different in my imagination, but you’ll get the picture.

The Story
This story starts with Stravlok some years after his family and friends had left the safe place of an underground bunker; whatever follows on from it is set in a time far from our imagination but not that far from reality? After a short nuclear holocaust that they deemed 'the war to end all wars', life on planet Earth stopped to a point of becoming a dead star. However, many years later and like the once brilliant mathematician, Dr Ian Malcolm told the world so many years before "Life cannot be controlled...Life finds a way." So I cannot help to think what if his Chaos Theory was correct, at this moment in time on this planet, there seems to be plenty of 'Chaos' going around.

So life did find a way, after years of fallout from the world ending war nearly one hundred years prior, life indeed did start to rebuild, but not like the first time. From the big bang, when over millions of years we ended up at the self-destruct age. No, this time some new species started to emerge from their underground safety, some were survivors from a time long forgotten and others were forged and welded from the earth and beasts that once roamed this great land and in the end, the self-professed 'chaotic' was correct in one way... Life Did Find A Way!
