A musically-inspired challenge with writing prompts posted twice a month. Prizes included!
The One-Line Lyric Challenge has been updated -- please read below!

Welcome to the One-Line Lyric Challenge!

Every month, I will post two songs: One with a lyric prompt (start of the month) and one as a song prompt (middle of the month).
Entries will be due at the end of the month for either prompt.

Lyric Prompt: Write a poem or story and include the prompted lyric line somewhere in your work, word for word. Use it for the opening line, dialogue, character description, whatever you want. Please bold the line to make it easier for me to find. It's OK if your work is loosely inspired by the song, but try not to make it too similar or copy the song. If you don't like the provided lyric prompt, you can pick a different line from the lyrics to incorporate (only one line).

Song Prompt: Write a poem or story inspired by the song. You do not need to include any lyrics directly, and in some cases there may not be any lyrics. Just write whatever the music or lyrics inspires.

Please link back to the challenge somewhere in your entry using {item:lyric} and post your entry as a link in the comments here.

The Prizes: 5K GPs, a merit badge of my choosing, plus a guaranteed review of your entry.
If you enter both prompts that month, you will get double the prizes!

Feel free to listen and comment on the music even if you don't plan to enter the challenge! There may be gift points in store for people who are active in the comments or share / promote the challenge.

For June and Pride month, we have one of my favorite artists in his prime. There aren't many musicians where I'll link the live version of a song instead of the album version. Jason is one of them. The things he can do with his voice, the pictures he can paint with his lyrics. So much musical talent and creativity in one person.

As a note, everything not in the lyrics below was free-styled for this performance.

Please sit back, fasten your seatbelts, and put your tables in the upright and locked position.

"Plane" by Jason Mraz

May is in full swing, the days are longer and the pollen is fallin'. This month, enjoy the bold and youthful energy of Mika with the angelic harmonies of Imogen Heap. A lovely combination.

No, I have not been getting enough sleep lately.
Perhaps I should make this my morning alarm.

"By The Time" by Mika

Prompt: "Sleepy eyes peek through the blinds at something wrong"

Is it that time already? Time for April's challenge. It's officially Spring, and for most that means spending more time outdoors. Perhaps on the open sea, if you're lucky enough to be near one. (Or the open shore, as I would prefer.)

If you're in need of an island paradise, sit back as these two best friends sing you the song of the sailor.

"Vahevala" by Loggins and Messina

Lyrics:

Prompt: "I'm thinking about the nights in Jamaica"

Alternative prompt: "I'm thinking about the nights in ________"
(insert your location of choice)

I have decided to open this prompt up a bit. If you don't want to use the original line, you can replace the word "Jamaica" with your location of choice. You also have the option of using a different line from the song for partial credit (5K GPs and a review, but no merit badge)

It's time for our second writing prompt for the One-Line Lyric Challenge (new name)! You may have noticed, I've given the challenge a proper title and separated it from the blog into it's own thing. I think it makes a lot more sense this way. Maybe it will even get a little more traction. Who knows?

This is the prompt for March, even though it's now April when I'm posting this.

For the record, last month's prompt is still open if you want to enter.

This one takes me back to family vacations in the Oregon country side.

"Where I Go" by Natalie Merchant

Prompt: "Let the river take them all away"

Welcome to the start of a new writing challenge. Music has always inspired me, so I decided to turn my "Song of the Month" into a monthly wring prompt / challenge. There will be a new song posted every month with a one line prompt. The challenge is to include the prompt line word for word in a poem or story. Read the description for rules and prizes.

(Note that this was copied over from my blog, where I originally started the challenge.)

Here's what I was listening to in February.
Warning: It's a bit catchy.

"So Sad So Lonely" by Matchbox Twenty

Lyrics:

Prompt: "All the one-way rides"
