*~*~*~*~*

I woke to the sound of my baby brother crying. I got up, it was 2 in the morning. I entered the room. Someon was standing over the cradle that my brother was sleeping in. Suddenly he stopped crying. I blinked a few times and there was no one there. I went to the cradle and looked in. My brother, my little baby brother was dead. He was cut by a knife. I screamed in horror at the sight of him.

My father ran in closely followed by my mother. I was ready for tears but they didnt come.

"WHAt did you do!?" My father shouted.

"I d-d-d-didnt do a-a-a-anything!!" I said, choking a bit.

He glared at me and turned back to my brother. He started to sob as my mother fell to the gound weeping.

"I didnt do it." I repeated.

Suddenly the shadowy outline of a man appeared beside my mother. She gasped then sprawled out to the ground. I screamed again. My father got up and looked at the man.

"YOU!" He said as if he recognized him.

The man turned to me. "Dont worry I am almost finished here."

He pointed the knife at me and was about to throw it. I shielded myself with my hands which were beginning to feel warmer than usual. Nothing happened. I opened my closed eyes. to see that fire was coming out of my palms. I screamed again and it disappeared. I backed against a night stand. It hurt but I was in total shock. The man was hit by it but stood up after getting blown to the ground.

I showed him my hand knowing that I could only stop him if I used the fire. The fire. After I would pretend I didnt have mutant powers. How could I anyway? THis was a dream. It had to be. A night mare.

Instead of fire and feeling warm I felt a little cold. My hands frosted over and ice raced toward the man. He jumped away and ran at my father with the knife. They had a small battle but my father was in shock from everything. He lost and was murdered in front of my eyes. I screamed and ice rushed at the man. He was frozen. I got a closer look but couldnt see his face. He had burns from the fire. Now he'd have frost bite.

Everyone was dead. What was I supposed to do? they would think I did it, if I told anyone. I watched the news. I knew what was happening to mutants all around the world. I wasnt about to turn myself in. I grabbed a few things quickly and pulled myself together. I was going to leave. I couldnt leave like this. My family was dead. But I couldnt stay. I couldnt.

Just as I was about to walk out I noticed a stack of mail. One was clearly adressed to me. On it was, in big letters, the word: IMPORTANT.

I opened it. Just from curiousity even though I knew I needed to leave. I read the short letter.

Dear Skyler Arcarro,

You are a mutant. You may not have found this out yet but you must believe me. Mutants everywhere are being hunted down and killed. Their families too. For your safety you must take this plane ticket. I can not tell you where it leads to in this letter. If it is ever intercepted...already the information is trouble. Please do as I request. It is very important.

Charles Hadler

A fellow mutant and teacher

What was all this? I wasnt going to do this! It was some letter telling me to go. I was already going. Why not go here? Maybe he was a good guy and he could help me. No one else could. Not here. Not anywhere. I decided to follow the directions. What could go wrong. The letter was not opened or anything. Looks like others knew I was a mutant before I did. I took the letter and envelope. I couldnt leave it lying aroubnd for others to discover me. Would there be other mutants as well? Hopefully.

*~*~*~*~*

I boarded the small jet that had four girls and four boys on it. I sat in the only empty seat, next to a cute looking guy. It was true. Still, I couldnt talk to him or introduce him. I was still a little messed up with what happened to my family. And I am now a mutant. Forever.

He tends to get on with everyone but some of the guys like to pick on him because of his abnormal speed they call him a freak and push him around a bit. He's fun loving and laid back and friendly. Can be quite stubborn and likes to argue his opinion. A good listener and gives good advice.

Family: Mum, Elizabeth (39) Dad, Darren (43)

Sister Connie (6)

Brother Harris (10)

"2 minutes!" Mr Egan called as Webb ran over the white line miles infront of everyone else. He took the bottle of water handed to him by a cute girl from the year below he winked at her causing her to giggle and blush.

Sipping his water Webb realised he wasn't even out of breath, the cross countries never got harder and the winner never changed. Webb decided he'd head off he was supposed to be looking after his brother and sister.

"See you later sir," Webb said to his teacher as he grabbed his backpack from the pile and headed towards the gates. The cute girl caught up with him.

"Are you busy right now?" She asked smiling flirtaciously.

"Well to be honest I am, sorry," Webb admitted and watched her face fall. "I gotta babysit,"

She smiled and shrugged. "Well you're loss."

Webb watched her walk off and sighed shaking his head, girls like that weren't worth it so full of themselves and sure they'd be wanted by everyone. Sure she was cute but she wasn't all that.

Webb took the back alleys and knew now he had a clear path to run home without being seen, putting his backpack securely on his back he set off at a pace that wasn't human.

About half way along someone jumped into his path, Webb couldn't stop himself and crashed into them. Picking himself up Webb saw it was a tall man dressed all in black and he hadn't been knocked over by the force of Webb smashing into him.

"Sorry about that I wasn't watching where I was going," Webb apologised and wiped himself off.

"Take this," the man said finally and handed Webb a white envelope, Webb took it and looked up at the man.

"Be more careful from now on." Then he vanished, Webb tore the envelope open and a letter and plane ticket fell out.

Dear Webb Notting

You are a mutant. You may not have found this out yet but you must believe me. Mutants everywhere are being hunted down and killed. Their families too. For your safety you must take this plane ticket. I can not tell you where it leads to in this letter. If it is ever intercepted...already the information is trouble. Please do as I request. Webb's hands shook a little as he shoved the letter and ticket back in the envelope, he had to talk to his parents, did they know? Webb then sped off back home needing answers.....

August 20

The boy didnt look like a mutant. In fact I was sure that no one was. It would make sense, if I wasnt the only one, to separate us. I smiled and sat down.

*~*~*~*~*
August 21

I walked off and looked around. There was a man with a large card with my name on it. I walked up to the name.

"Come with me miss." He said.

I nodded following him. THis must've been Charles Hadler. He was headed to a large black limo. He opened the door for me. I looked in a saw a some what familar face. I stepped back.

"YOU!" I said softly.

He got out. "Me."

It was the Ralph Walters guy who was always after mutants. Mutants like me.

"Come with me. I wont harm you. No. Not at all." He lied.

"I dont believe you." I said backing away.

"Well if you dont do as I say then the men hidden and positioned around this building will shoot you." He sneered.

He didnt know my power hopefully. I could lie to him.

"It wont kill me." I said.

"A healer? How unrare. I thought hunting you down and discovering your power would be more exciting." He said.

"Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not." I said.

He raised an eyebrow. I pushed him back into the limo slammed the door and ran. I ran as fast as I could. I had to find Charles Hadler. I ran to a phone booth.

I opened a phone book but couldnt find his name. Of course. It wouldnt be safe to do that.

I ran out breathing hard. I had my luggage which slowed me down a bit. I had to find Charles Hadler before Walters found me again. I also needed to learn to control my powers.

I looked around. I wasnt in a city that was for sure. The plane ride was at least 6 hours long. Where was I? I walked into a small drink shop. I ordered a lemonade and watched the TV nearby.

"So Ralph. Any idea who these mutants are?"

"We know three so far. A Skyler Arcarro. Lian Pagrow and Webb Notting." He answered.

"So now your viewers can be watching out for these creatures. Lets go to their pictures."

By then I knew it was time to leave. I stood up and was gone before any of the pictures were shown. Lian Pagrow and Webb Notting. I could call them. Warn them. Maybe they already knew. At least I wasnt alone, which was kind of selfish but I didnt want to be the only mutant. Me against the world would end tragically, for me anyway. The whole world seems to believe that the mutants shoudl be destroyed. Even family.

One the streets there were a few points toward me like they may have recognized me but werent sure.

"Oh! Sorry!" I said running into someone.

He was an older man. Bald with a strange hat on and a buisness suit.

"Dont worry about it. Skyler Arcarro? Yes its you. I'm Charles Hadler."

"Hello. You are the one that sent me the letter right?" I asked.

"yes. I need to take you to our hide out. We'll have others there soon." He said.

"We?"

"Yes. I have other non mutants helping. Two actually. Good friends of mine. Lets get going."

"Okay." I followed him hoping it wasnt some trick.

Sure enough it wasnt.
Skyler

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"TO the school." He said.

I was confused a bit. A school. We were in a dark tunnel that felt like it got colder with every step.I shivered a bit and kept following. Finally it stopped. It was a total dead end. I was beginning to think this guy, Charles Hadler, was nuts. He brought me through a cave to the end. The end with nothing left. He tapped the cave wall and bit and stepped forward. A small, thin red light moved from the top of his eyes to the bottom and back again.

"Charles Hadler. Accepted." It sounded like a computer.

"Welcome back." Said an old sounding voice.

"Thank you Hannah." Hadler said.

"I have a question." I said.

"Stand here." He showed me where to stand. "Look forward and try not to blink."

The red light scanned my eyes. "Skyler Arcarro. Mutant."

"Add her in Hannah." Hadler said.

"Sure thing."

"Now what did you want to ask?"

"Well now I have two things. One: What was all that? Two: What about the other mutants? Are they going to make it here?" I asked.

"That was a new entry so that you can get into the cave without me." He said. "The other mutants will come seperately. I'll need your help. I need to see...a Webb Notting about his powers. We may have a problem here."

"Why?"

"Well he has been using his speed in track races. Now he never really new any different and there is nothing wrong with that but his family and friends will be looking for him to turn him in." He said.

"What about..."

"Lian? Lian may be experiencing some problems now. We just hope he gets the letter on time."

"Ok. I'll help." I said. "but how do you know when they get their letters?"

"Tracking. The letters are tracked. When the right person picks it up we begin tracking them."

"How do you have all this technology stuff?" I asked.

"We have a lot of that. It can pay to...be an insider. Hannah and Mike both will be teaching you. They are insiders to the government. Important Senators. Very important." He said.

"So?"

"So they help a great deal not only with the latest technology. There is one thing you need to know. You will recognize them. They are active anti-mutants. Thats what keeps them with a good cover. They cant get caught."

"Anti-mutants? Like someone against mutants." I sighed.

The world had gotten so messed up I just felt like erasing everything I knew and starting over again.

((Are people not requesting invites? Or aren't you adding people.....?? There's only three of us! And I know it's short so sorry!!))

No one was home when Webb arrived back, he paced the kitchen for about fifteen minutes then decided enough, was enough. He wanted to catch that plane, he wanted to see why he had this power and how far excatly he could take it.

Taking the stairs two at a time Webb burst into his bedroom and started to cram his things into a travel bag. He also put in a few pictures, him and his family, him and friends.

He scribbled a quick note to his parents, reasurring them he would be fine that they should take his word for it. But maybe they already knew? Did Harris and Connie have powers too? Just undiscovered? Too many questions were flying about in his head that he had to ignore them and just concentrate on ringing for a cab to the airport.

The cab was outside in 10 minutes and Webb felt surprisingly relieved as he got further and further away from his house. No more lies about things, it felt great............
I sighed looking down helplessly. I was getting so confused. Why was life like this. Why me? Why was I a mutant. Neither of my parents were mutants. Nor any of my other family. What happened that made me like this. Was it all a mistake?

I stood up quickly. To quickly my head rushed and my vision went black. I put a hand on the wall from support and felt a strange feeling from my hand. My vision returned and I looked aat my hand. The wall was beginning to freeze over. The alley was empty thankfully. As I pulled my hand away I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Mutant?" A large muscle man asked with a wicked grin.

"Maybe. Not....purposely..." Wrong answer.

He advanced cracking his knuckled and I swallowed frightfully. I didnt really know how to control my powers right now...I couldnt do anything.

I stared up at him and realized how tall this very large man really was. He must have almost been 7 feet. What was he doing down an alley?

"This may hurt...for a bit..." He smirked again looking at his fists and waving them around.

I backed against the wall tightly and closed my eyes. When nothing came I opened them suddenly and to my dismay saw him still standing there with a frown.

"Icy. Why arent you fighting back? Coward. Girlie." He sneered.

"I..." He had gone a bit to far but I was in no situation to do anything about it.

He laughed mercilessly. I remembered suddenly. Why I had remembered I will never know because it was very strange. I was supposed to meet one of the knew mutants at the airport. I was late and only about a block away.

The man's fist flew toward my face. I screamed and ducked. He shouted and waved his hand around angrily. He pushed me to the wall with a hand securing my face to the brick and the other ready to punch my stomach in. I closed my eyes tightly. WHY WAS I A MUTANT? WHY COULDNT I DO ANYTHING?
