Does fact ever get in the way of fiction?
I have a question. Do you and your life every spill over into what you are writing? My main character is sort of, loosely, based on me and my experiences. I find myself writing "my story" instead of my character's story. This means I bring in all kinds of things that don't foreshadow or build or do anything...except get it out of my system. I think the inability to separate myself from the character is one reason I have to keep rewriting. Some of my experiences are an intregal part of the book, but I keep writing parts that aren't. Any suggestions? Anyone else do the same thing?
BTW, I am hosting the FROM FACT TO FICTION contest...but still I don't do it well.
