Writer's Fallout Shelter

I entered a short story competition hosted by the Academy of Children's Writers in March and recently recieved a letter congratualting me on being judged as in the top 15% (300 out of over 2000) and inviting me to enrol in their course. They've also given me a consolation prize of a £15 off voucher, so that the total cost for me would be £175.

The problem is, I'm not sure if they could have sent this to everyone who entered, just as a way to boost enrolment and funds. Also, I'm not sure that the course would be worth £175, especially as I just completed a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing.

Has anyone had any experience with the Academy of Children's Writers? Or does anyone know if a diploma, which you gain on completion, would actually mean anything to agents and publishers?

Also, any other children's writers at there? I don't usually write for children, the story I submitted was the second I'd ever written, so I'm a complete beginner at it, and it would be great to meet someone who had more experience.
