Have you ever had something terrible happen to you, and then written about it? I mean like a divorce, a break-up, a death... Really anything that has left you feeling awful. Usually, when something less-than-pleasant happens to me, and I get really angry, or sad, I take those feelings and put them into story format, and then I don't feel so bad. (Sorry to quote, "Sound of Music") It’s almost like when you write about this same event, or feelings, that are happening to you, then you lay them on your characters, it organizes your thoughts more rationally on the subject, and lets you dig deep inside your own head and get down where you ask yourself the tough questions about what’s happened. Because that way, you can see what your characters are feeling, and what they are feeling mirrors your own feelings about whatever happened, in result, you are venting your feelings, and at the same time, figuring them out. (Sorry for my long rant!) So, if your answer was no to this question, I challenge you to write about something bad that has happened to you in a fictional format. It will really help you feel better.
