Her chair fell over backward, and all he could do was laugh. Not the malicious hehehe she was used to, but the warm chuckle of a good friend. Deep crinkles appeared by his eyes as he offered his hand.
"Nothing hurt, I trust?" he asked.
"Just my pride," Carlie muttered ruefully. She rubbed where her elbow had banged against the table and mopped at the coffee.
"Let me." Denny took the napkin and swiped some more from the table behind them. Carlie flushed as he kept adding paper napkins to the spreading pool of cold coffee. She muttered something about being clumsy, and fixed her eyes on the pepper pot. He bunched up one of the wet towels and threw it at her. "Yup, clumsy as an yeti," he agreed.
Carlie wrinkled her nose. "What?"
He shrugged. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and start being silly. It's much better for you."
