Angus, I did the same thing with 'Bag of Bones'. I read the novel first, then watched the movie. I'm glad I did because the movie lost some of the novel's plot line. But I need to say the novel was a slow starter at 90-some pages before it started taking off into the Netherlands. When it did, it pulled my whole skeleton in.
Right now I've been reading F. Paul Wilson. His story, "The Barrens," grab me by the shirt and yanked me into a monstrous tale out in the lost lands of West Virginia. Don't go over Razorback Ridge--you may not come back! It's a tale that gravitates toward H.P. Lovecraft.
