What will you come up with? |
You may already guess, from the stunned expression on my face when I look up and try to see beyond the clouds, that I am preoccupied. I may as well tell you that I shall never regard the mysterious sky when it is dark at night the same way as before, all because I watched, yesterday, a video piece on the mapping of the 8000 galaxies by scientists. I found out that not only we belong to the Milky Way, but also to the super cluster of galaxies called Laniakea, which means ‘immeasurable heaven’ in Hawaiian. Moreover, that map is the most detailed, three-dimensional map of our place in the universe. The cosmos, in its immensity, is an ever-evolving being, and how tiny, how petty we are in relation to its mind-boggling size. I have the feeling it may be holding us and turning us around just for the fun of it, but whatever its reason, that thing out there--with its own motions, black holes, nebulae, clusters, black and dark-blue matter and whatnot--has to be a conscious being. I wonder if it, too, experiences love and desire in its quaint sort of way, and if it, too, is preoccupied, like me, with its minutest particle called the solar system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rENyyRwxpHo#t=41 |
