Ah, I saw the movie first, so I didn't bother reading the first book. I began the book series with the second book, and I had absolutely no problem with the transition. Maybe the first book was not as good as the rest.
I did notice something about the Shadowhunter Academy books...Cassandra Clare had various 'helpers' with writing each of them. I could actually notice the different writing styles.
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the show. I think the special FX are terrific! I love the way their weapons look.
