The reason everyone is writing scenes is because that's what the contest asks for. It's one thing to know the answer to a question and another to deliver the information in a story.
If you're worried about getting it all across, focus on one area of your world rather than trying to write about the whole. It's okay to work on just one region or culture at a time.
