I've never been interested in NaNoWriMo because writing 50k words in a month is not something I've ever had a problem with. I've done more than twice that. However, when it comes to rewriting drafts and the editing process, I notice my output goes way down.
Perhaps NaNo is a good vehicle for getting back into the swing of things with a new project, or at least in preparation for a new project. I still have 60k words to write to finish my current project (which is in its 5th incarnation).
