Scientific Study

*Dollar* 50 GPs were sent to Arakun the Twisted Raccoon with this post.
         Ralph slipped on his surgical gloves. “Okay, let’s take a look at this little booger! The first complex extraterrestrial lifeform to make it back to Earth!”
         Alexa opened a refrigerator and pulled out a box. Placing the box on the table, she opened it and pulled out a jar. Inside the jar slopped a gel with something dark suspended within it. Twisting the lid off the jar, she gently poured the dark mass into a tray laid ready on the table.
Ralph leaned over the tray, beside Alexa. “It looks like an octopus or jellyfish!” he exclaimed. “Let’s see which it’s more like. Where’d you find it?”
         “On the exomoon Gaia, in the Tethys Ocean, near a hydrothermal vent. We mapped where we found it and made a spreadsheet. They’re on my Smartphone.”
         “We can look again later.” Ralph pulled out a pair of tweezers and carefully poked the specimen, holding a magnifying glass. “How’ll we recognize anything like sight organs, or a mouth, if it eats? Of course, that’s why you collected it.”
         Alexa smirked. “We examined it earlier. At the time it had little globules all along the tentacles, and also hooked bristles. Those are much harder to see now, but those could be organs for sight and touch. As for whatever that serves for mouth or rectum, that’s what science is for!”
         Ralph turned the creature over again. “I can see them now. How appropriate it is our earliest confirmed complex alien lifeform resembles an octopus or jellyfish!”
         Suddenly Alexa gasped. “Oh, it moved! On its own! It’s supposed to be dead!”
         As they watched in astonishment and horror, the alien creature they assumed was safely dead suddenly reared and squirted a vile liquid at them. Droplets sprayed on their clothes and began stinging them. They screamed.
