That might be due to the size of the thing. ... There is another path. Reduce the size of the source file. Two possibilities. Word has a tendency to accumulate unused/duplicate formatting. If the word count on this one is the same or less than the word count on the others, and there isn't much text formatting within the text (italicized thought or emphasis, for example), it might help to save as .txt to strip out all the formatting and then open the .txt file in Word in .doc compatible mode and start fresh, adding just the text formatting you need, and save directly to a .doc file. If the word count is larger than the others, then reduce the word count. For most unpublished writers, about 20% of their text is excess verbiage from inefficient sentence structure. Assuming you're not one of the few outliers -- If you trimmed that part of the text, you might be able to reduce it enough that the compressed PDF would fit in the 1 MB limit. Not a quick and simple tech fix, but if you go the traditional publishing route, the editor is going to have you make those changes anyway. Hope that helps.
