A nonsense poem inspired, rewired, soon to be retired . . .

This was it. The first day.

Life all a twitter, gaze a daze.
Thoughts a twirling, eyebrows amazed.
Everything new and highly praised.

Friends a gawking, acting half-crazed.
Comments a walking on lips being traced.
Nothing like it not in all their newborn days.

Mom’s a using the same worn out phrase.
Dad’s comparing their own first-timers phase
And old Henry Walker’s wall-eyed gaze.

What could be better-shaped clay?
Than first day plans like that joining the fray
While onlookers faces turn pale shades of gray.

What was it that happened to turn everyone gay?
Except for the preachers who on their knees prayed?
No-one knew exactly, no-one could say.

A mystery of history had strayed and stayed.
To wonder, be pondered wherever it may.
Waiting on young minds to someday play.
