If you purchase merchandise in bulk, the store sells it to you and you do the work of subdividing the product and repackaging it for yourself and your friend.

A membership is not the same as bulk merchandise == the buyer can't do the work to repackage a longer membership into smaller pieces for multiple people.

The total cost of a 6 month membership and two 3 month memberships is higher than the cost of a full year membership. One reason the longer memberships have a discounted price is the savings to the site of not having to process membership and payment information (and all the related start/end of paid membership processing) the extra times.

It is already possible to purchase 9 months of membership for yourself, and give 3 months of membership to a friend. To do so, you would purchase a 6-month membership and a 3-month membership for yourself, and purchase a 3-month membership for your friend.

Upgraded:
$34.95 + (2 x $19.95) = $74.85
1 year = $49.95
Price difference = $24.90


Basic:
$14.95 + (2 x $9.95) = $34.85
1 year = $19.95
Price difference = $14.90
