I think that each parent has a duty to act to protect their children. All children have the right to be protected and educated. It is wrong for any parent to deny their children medicine or a complete education for any reason. The measure of control a parent has must depend on the age of the child. Children must be given the lessons of right and wrong, but children do get old enough and have the rules ingrained in them enough, that things can be more of a negotiation.
