Looking for a writing buddy. Is that still a thing?
by adrm
As most people here probably know, writing is a lonely affair.

I've completed one novel and started on another, but I find myself in sore need of someone to exchange ideas and feedback with. That is if people still do that sort of thing. The latest requests for such a thing seem to be a few years old.
(Someone kindly suggested I join the Novel Workshop Group, but I don't meet their membership criteria.)

The idea is for each person to give the other feedback on writing style, story, inconsistencies, plot holes, pacing, etc as we're both working on our stories. I can only speak for myself, but there are criteria I'm looking for:

- One's story has been started, e.g. at least 5000 words written. Just to show commitment.
- One has the time to write on a regular basis. I'm thinking at least 3000 words a week.
- One has time to give feedback on a regular basis, say at least once a week.
- One is open to constructive criticism and also not afraid to give it. Imo, egos get in the way of a creative process.
- One is writing with an eye towards publication to the public in some form.
- One has at least a basic understanding of grammar and punctuation so that feedback is not ALL about this. One must also be interested in putting in an effort to improve.

Compatible genres. I know nothing about poetry and pure romances and can give little useful feedback on such. I'm primarily looking for someone who is writing for an adult audience (not adult as in pornographic). Historical fiction, SciFi, fantasy, action, mystery are examples of genres I'd be interested in.

I'd also prefer to work with someone who's into good story-arcs, i.e. realism, and deep, complex characters.

Please note that I'm serious about progress. In other endeavors, I've found myself with partners who promised they were 'super serious' but who turned out to be anything but. As a result, I have little patience with such people and move on.

Email if this sounds like it's of interest to you and tell me what you're working on. (On the off chance that more than one person contacts me, I'll have to make a choice. Whatever happens, I promise to reply.)
