They left the lights on for him... HM, Jan '24 1st & 2nd Chance Poetry contest
The white house stands tall on the white hillside
Lit windows glowing warm at eventide
The road-weary traveler trudges along
His legs are tired but in his heart there's a song
For he knows he doesn't have far to go
Before reaching the family who loves him so
It's a long way from home to where he's been
The project completed, the hours put in
Hard work pays off but at what a cost
Time spent with loved ones is all but lost
No more to waste, he's almost home
Closer to the ones he's always known
In time for the holidays, warm and bright
A family soon complete, arriving tonight
White house standing tall on the snowy hillside
Waiting, glowing, inviting at eventide.
