They're only killjoys when they intervene on the fun. Since they're turned, they're no longer killjoys - the whole of the Stellae will be now.

It's a bit disappointing that Caleb gets sidelined so hard. This branch has had him - arguably what anyone would consider his only vitriolic best friend - alongside him all along, even with the clusterfuck that involved all the switching. Having Will now consider ghosting him because he can decipher the book without help is dickish at best. It would've been pretty interesting to have Caleb take over Frank, even if he has no prodigies, because they're going against a much larger organization, and despite Will's well-known ability to improvise plans on the fly, he may need a bit of help.

(And because Caleb being part of the Stellae hasn't been explored yet. Only Carson got to do so, and he was withered and shellshocked by then.)

But, it's a pretty interesting exploratory branch, the kind that offers yet another view on the book and these guys.
