One important thing about writing is to remember to get the ideas down first. It doesn't matter if it is polished, it really doesn't need to be. Once the ideas are written, then you can begin working on your story/word art. Write first making sure to fire your editor or send your editor on vacation until you have completed the project. If your story belongs in the slush pile than you've done an excellent job of writing and keeping your editor away from your work.

Another important part of the writing process is to enjoy the journey. Have fun with the characters, scenes, and plot. Sometimes your story will go somewhere totally unexpected or your characters will change things which can make your story more interesting and much better. Give your imagination your [ermission to go and do whatever it wants.

Whenever possible, write down ideas so they are not lost. Even when an idea does not fit a current project it can be used for something else later.

Shove doubt/the critic out the door.

Write with might for readers' delight.
