This piece is slightly over the word count at 793 words. Feel free to disqualify the piece, but I reduced my initial draft from ~1,100 words, and cannot think of how to reduce it further without damaging the flow I am going for.

Hopefully there's some wiggle room built into your contest, but if not, I understand.
