Pita turns and studies Alexander .

"My Lord, we were trying to determine that. I saw the lovely Maryann as she entered and made her way to the buffet. She greeted a number of guests, laughing and smiling, then poured herself a glass of punch."

Pita hands the delicate punch glass to Lord Araqu.

"She took a quaff, then seemed to spasm, reach for her throat and fall. I smell no arsenic, but there are other poisons that alchemists brew."

Then Pita's frown deeped as he studied Fireant . His friend was a spice merchant, after all, a man able to obtain exotic spices and chemicals. If Lady Starlight was poisoned, surly Lord Jamison would have easy access to such things.
