Yesterday, May 12th 2003, I was leafing through the New York Post and I came across a very interesting and amusing article. A mental asylum in Connecticut, if I remember correctly, has reported an influx in the amount of patients who speak, well...Klingon.
The article proceeds to describe the growth of the 'language' in relation to institutionalizations of Klingon speakers.
Many of the patients refuse to speak anything but Klingon, and some appear not to speak English at all anymore.
Fed up, and understandably confused, the asylum put out a want ad for Klingon interpreters who are willing to come in and translate. They said interpreters have proved successful with Russian and Arabic patients, and with Klingons it shouldn't be any different.
I don't mean to offend any Trekkies here, but this is hilarious! I couldn't believe what I was reading. It's bizarre!
Anyway, I guess Star Trek has made quite an impact on these people's lives.
