That was the beginning to a quite special story, with WDC itself creatively worked in as a character. How could one honor this great place more?

I liked Ollie. Although so famous he's the grounded guy from next door beneath the facade. He even seems a bit suspicious about the fame. Of course he's happy that his work gets the attention it does, but not for financial but personal reasons. The hype however and those - women and men - only wanting to be with him to get their piece of it isn't his.

Ollie's looking out for something that's actually incompatible and that because his fame has somehow "tainted" his ability to find The One he's looking for, who loves him for being him aside from with what he makes his living, who shares his passions and would support him and stick with him in that "other" world. Although he tries not to leak it out he seems to suffer under not being able to find his match. He longs for her, but she wouldn't come. Those who could don't care to look beyond the normal facade, those who come mainly have selfish reasons.

His observation that he won't find Her in LA is true. It's called the "dream factory" for a reason. People are all looking for pushing through their own interests. When I'm not famous I hook up with someone who is. When I'm more famous I dump him and look out for someone even more famous. Everyone wants to be seen, earn the most, it's hard to find two people who are really serious with each other there.

I like his "normal" life in his quiet smalltown in a movie store. Usually it wouldn't make you rich but since he mustn't care about that anymore he can work for the sheer joy of it and also with something he loves almost as much as his calling. He seems to be truly content with it when returning from this "alternate Universe" called Hollywood.

To be true I'm wondering a bit why he learned lawyer when he didn't really want to become one, already knew what he really wanted. Was it because he didn't want to disappoint his parents? Make them proud? Because he thought he wanted it until reality proved him otherwise?

I'm also wondering a bit about his incognito. When he grew up in that smalltown and even only a small percentage of those people read his stuff, those would know his parents (his pen name) and frequently be confronted with the photo on the jacket. Even if he grows a beard and wears his glasses those must make the connection between the author and the video guy and somehow make it known and if they only ask him and not scream it out to the world immediately. But maybe that's just me.

Back to WDC: I liked how you involved the site... kind of even introduced it a bit to people who stumble over it, but aren't sure yet if they want to join. Ollie found it the same way and me as well when desperately looking out for a place to share my work and have it (proof)read and reviewed. (For that sole reason I even started writing in English, my second language.)

His intention of why he joined matches his internal drive to pass on his passion for the written word. It shows in his wonderment when perusing the place and finding all those written gems. Like a child in a toy factory. It also fits his nature to do reviewing and encouragement of "the next generation" anonymously - here he can pretend to be just another guy in their vast community of like-minded.

Then it makes ZOOM! so strong, that he even goes out of his way, exposes himself, communicates or tries to with her, becomes obsessed with this one special individuum he found by chance he only knows through her writing.

Honestly, I'm a hopeless romantic as well deep inside. I wish My Special Someone would stumble over my port as well. *sigh*

I will be back for more soon. *Heart*
