This is an incredible retelling of the classic! The contrast between Rapunzel's beautiful appearance and her horrible secret is shocking, and the developments of a slightly different past for Rapunzel and a past for the prince are refreshing. I love how Rapunzel manages to remain in character-- instead of resorting to the typical "now-it-is-revealed-that-I'm-a-witch-who-will-kill-you" act, she stuck it out as someone who truly loves the prince, with flawed logic that makes sense in a twisted way. The ending was original. The prince died in this retelling, but not for a reason that would be applicable in the original story. His fear of his love's actions and lingering love for his abusive brothers were the only thing that prevented him from having a "happily ever after." The poetry woven into the story gave it a Gothic tone that suited the piece well, and the story flowed easily.
I noticed very little room for correction. I didn't really understand what the description of Rapunzel's laughter meant-- the descriptions thus far seemed positive, but the foreshadowing with the blood and such could have been added here, too, making it hard to see what you wanted. Also, the very last sentence was not clear-- DID he snap her neck, in the process of falling, or was her hair simply ripped out?
Thank you for sharing an amazing an unique retelling of an old fairytale!
