Ok, you got back the money playing by the rules of the crook, who cheated on your husband. Your love and sympathy for the husband got you into the middle of men of sleight of hand. you stood bravely and went ahead with the same kind of cheating tricks that Anshu was playing.
The scam gamble is well shown and explained.
This story works as a good eye-opener for the tourist who has weakness for gambling. At the beginning of the story, you sketched the profile of a man with this much dreaded vice.
I recall the story of Dharmaraja from the famous Indian Epic, The Mahabharata, who lost his prosperous kingdom, treasury, four brothers and even his wife to the enemy camp in gambling. such vices do nothing but destruction of a person's mental peace and physical well-being.
It also brings to my mind, the constructive role the police could play in checking this illegal activity on the beach. If they were vigilant, you and your husband could have had a memorable evening of sweet memories.

Well, as they say, experience is the best teacher.
