*CakeB* HAPPY WDC ACCOUNT ANNIVERSARY FROM "Anniversary Reviews*CakeP*

There was a touch of humour at the beginning of this story that took the edge off the horror - which, for me, was a good thing because I'm not a fan of tales that are too scary. *Laugh* Maybe it was the description of the old pub that did it because the picture you pained there clearly showed the worst place in the country. It seemed that everything that could be wrong with the house was wrong. At that point, I expected the story to take a humorous turn as the setting would have been ideal for it. But that wasn't where you were going at all and as it soon turned out, the state of the house was the least of the occupants' worries.

It seemed that at least some of the neighbours in the village knew what was wrong with the pub and I assume they joined the festivities that night out of curiosity but quickly scattered once the spooky events got too much for them. I noticed that the narrator only found out by accident as none of them told the new landlord about the rumours, so I thought I could rule out a prank they were trying to play on them. The only explanation at this point was that it was indeed real. I could understand the narrator's unease as she had found out about the rumour, but it was intriguing to see that her husband felt it too when he said, "I’m not going down there alone." It was those little details that made the story feel quite realistic.

It would have been interesting to learn the history of the ghost, how she came to be there and what the running water had to do with it, but since the new owners didn't stick around after the events, it might be hard to include such details. The abrupt ending worked quite well though because apart from the last couple of sentences, the story ended on a scary note and that's the feeling that is likely to stay with the readers and make them remember this tale.
