Hello alanscott

Thank you for entering "Musicology Anthology It is my honour to review your offering "Invalid Item today. Please keep in mind that any suggestions I make here are just that: suggestions. Pick and choose which ones you like or discard them in their entirety. You and only you can decide what's right for your work. Every writer has an individual style--a unique voice to share with the world, and originality is not only welcome but encouraged.

Per iKïyå§ama-House Targaryen 's instructions, each story can receive up to 100 points. While entries will be judged on creativity, plot, spelling/grammar, and characterization, I believe your ability to abide by the contest's rules is as important as the story itself.

Here is my scoring system: if your story hits the bullseye for any given category, then you will receive ALL of the allotted points for that category. If you miss the mark, you will receive NO points for that category.

The categories are:

*Reading* Overall Impression:
Due to the sheer volume of entries received I am unable to provide you with a detailed review of your work, but I can give you my overall impression.

A good selection of stories. I liked how they all fit together while individually telling different tales. The main character was quite well rounded and by the end, the readers got a fairly clear image of him, although you didn’t say much about his background. The other characters only played minor parts, with the exception of Chuck and Jim. Ironically, it was Jim’s story that I found most touching (until I got to the last chapter) because he came across as quite likeable and his reluctance to tell anyone was very moving. Of course, that impression of the character disappeared in the last chapter.

It was nice that Chuck made an appearance again at the end and that he turned out to be ‘the one’ after all the other failed attempts. There was a bit of a recurring theme with Oscar’s boyfriends being late or not showing up at all and I wonder if that was deliberate or perhaps an oversight. It might work better to vary their faults a little because it did seem a little repetitive at times. Having said that, the way Oscar wondered at one point if something might have happened when his boyfriend was late yet again worked very well and seemed quite realistic.

*Heart* What I Liked Best:
Due to the sheer volume of entries received I am unable to provide you with a detailed review of your work, but I can tell you what I liked best.

There was a measure of humour in some of the stories, and after the first one, which was quite serious, the mood changed with the speed dating story (which was hilarious in places) and a string of rather strange guys Oscar ended up dating. The tone became more intense again at the end when it turned out that Jim wasn’t really all that nice, and the nightmares that Oscar suffered as a result gave his character a bit more depth as well.

My favourite (after I realised that Jim didn’t deserve my sympathy) was probably ‘Tell it to her’ because for the first time it looked like Oscar might have found a decent guy and when it turned out that he hadn’t, he was heartbroken. His emotions came across particularly well in that chapter.

The writing was good – there were a few minor errors but nothing a quick edit wouldn’t fix – and the dialogue was very realistic and easy to imagine. Overall, I thought this was quite an original collection and a good read.
