Dinner for Two [E] A Writer's Cramp Entry |
I found your item on the Poetry Genre page. I see it's for a Writer's Cramp prompt. Good luck with the contest. This describes the comfort zone of love between a couple celebrating thirty-three years of marriage. The reader is taken from the earlier years in the Eighties, to the present. Their tradition on each anniversary is to eat at a certain diner. Diner's represent comfort, familiarity and simplicity. I can understand how they are chosen when youth start dating. They are also economical. Interesting prompt to get the romance muse going. Observation: Dinner at a diner all this time Each year on this their wedding day The repeat word of "this" within two consecutive lines, takes away from it, makes the reader pause a bit to try and replace the word with another. One of these could be easily replaced without losing the emphasis that their special day is celebrated at the diner each year. Nicely penned, tells a story of a long lasting marriage, and paints a picture a reader can imagine, making the couple come to life in the mind's eye. Well done! Until next time--write on!
