The Item Alias
Why would my item need an alias? Is it hiding? Does it need a new identity? What is an item alias?
When we joined the Writing.com community, we all had to learn the mysterious and elusive bitem link. Eventually, we figured it out and learned some other types of links along the way. (If not, here's your chance: WritingML Help) An item link is a code that puts a clickable link to your item on another page. Like when you want to promote your contest or activity - you post some encouraging words for other members to join in the fun and then link your item so they can easily click it and join.
Can you always remember the item number? That jumble of six or seven numbers has to land perfectly in your post or you'll be promoting someone else's stuff! When the Item Alias was first introduced, I was thrilled! I can remember my phone number from 1979, but my item numbers? Forget it. So instead of having to link my "15 for 15 Contest --- Closed" contest item with an item link like this: {item:994771} I use an item alias {item:fifteen} This is an easy memory jog and wonderful for a quick link. I have over a dozen item alias words and it's really helpful.
So when helping guide a new member, help them with an easy link to a helpful forum. And think about purchasing your own item alias for your most used link items. The cost is 10,000 gift points for an entire year and well worth it for an easy linking tool. You can also change what item your alias points to or transfer it to another person.

If you want to improve your writing, over-come writer's block or just want the practice, this exercise will help you:
1. Work on characterisation (what your protagonist's personality is like, i.e. what sort of person they are).
2. Practice writing from a definite point of view.
3. Practice “showing” the action rather than “telling” readers what is going on.
4. Get your writing brain fired up again
This isn't a contest, but rather, a place to share your poetic expressions!

LorenIsOneOfMyNames  : Wattpad, and vice versa. I post links in my bio.
TheBusmanPoet : No. Just to my wife to proof read. If requested I will read my poems to anyone who's interested in listening. Otherwise it's just my wife.
Beholden  : No. I explained to my son how to get into WdC to read my latest stuff, but I doubt he ever bothered.
blimprider: Yes, but mostly it's the other way around. I have a few books on Amazon, and every 90 days I'll plug them in the newsfeed; it's usually good for a couple of sales. Otherwise, when I write something I know will appeal to steampunks, or mystery fans for example, I'll email those particular friends with a link, but I'm not really stressing over commercial success at this late date; having a few nice people like what I'm doing is compensation enough!
Serena Blade : No, but I am about too. On my facebook. let's see if I can anyone interested.

ForeverDreamer : I don't really promote it outside WDC. I do share it with a small number of people that I care about.
Kåre Enga in Udon Thani  : I'm not disciplined enough. Very few people I know are interested in what I write. But... I should try again on fb. I'm a writer, a romantic, a traveler, NOT a promoter. I don't have the means to hire an agent.
graybabe : I do rarely but in my other blogs and on YouTube.
bryanmchunter: I do occasionally bring it up on YouTube, notably in the community posts of my account.
Dragonfly : No, I only show my writings on WDC and to a few family and friends. I don't think I'm qualified to promote myself anywhere else.
Shadow Prowler-Spreading Love  : No, and I don't think I ever would. WDC is a safe, secure place and I trust the people here. I can't say that for other places outside of WDC. Besides, I really don't have anything worthy of promoting anyway. What I do is for fun and to simply put smiles on people's faces. I'm not very motivated or striving for recognition, publication, or anything. Just collecting people's smiles :)
Kit MacPherson : I have an author page on Facebook, and I’ll post links there occasionally.
jdennis  : Never. I'm not good enough.
JCosmos  : I blog almost daily at https://theworldaccordingtocosmos.com, update my FB pages almost daily and post weekly on all poetry, poetry soup and more occasionally on poetry nook, poetry circle, hello poetry, cosmosfunnel, sweek, and poetry magnum opus. and even more occasionally instragram. Going forward I will update all these sites during the april poetry month, and after that once a week on all platforms. and i have started a weekly podcast. Going foward I will start a you tube chanel and a weekly newsletter.
elephantsealer : In order to promote my writing outside of WDC, I join writing contests!!! It works sometimes; however, it gets terribly expensive most of the time!!!
Anna Marie Carlson : When I get to the point of creating my own website and creating links will be a new learning experience for me. I may be needing some help with that.
