Read to Win

You have heard it time and time again and it is true every time. If you want to become a good writer, you have to be a reader too. Reading has many advantages and few downsides.

Advantages:
*Bullet* Exercise for the brain
*Bullet* Often free entertainment
*Bullet* Improved concentration and focus
*Bullet* Improved literacy
*Bullet* Improved sleep
*Bullet* Increased general knowledge
*Bullet* Motivational
*Bullet* Stress reducing

Downsides:
*Bullet* Sometimes, just another page turns into an all-nighter
*Bullet* Reading a poorly written book, but not wanting to give up

If all of this is not convincing enough, here on Writing.Com, we have got groups to encourage and reward reading. Two places encourage you to read published books and talk about them. Each has their own approach and both make a lot of sense. Be sure to check them out.

Ask & Answer

Reply to my last Contests & Activities newsletter "Gamification that asked: What kind of enhancements make you want to take part in contests and activities?

AmyJo- only 2 steps behind - wrote: One of my goals is to commission a MB for my Anagrams game. I've had a lot of feedback, and I think this is something I want to do. The trinkets are a wonderful addition, and are fun when found. I've already have a few trinkets done myself, and it could be habit forming.

Habit forming. Yes. I have made over 100 trinkets myself. They are so much fun to hunt, collect, and make. Any new merit badge is great. I hope you make an Anagrams badge. As a writing site, we need that anyways.
