The newsletter for the month of August will discuss the life and work of best selling author, Thomas Harris, whose work with his novels actually changed the sphere of mystery writing due to his introduction of the Harris’s work has been deep and influential, kick-starting a genre of horror-crime which many authors have tried to emulate but none as successfully as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Last month, we saw the last part of summer and here we are with fall in the headlights before us.

This month's newsletter is about the life and works of American best selling author, and former journalist, Thomas Harris. I wanted to write about Thomas Harris but I was unaware that he shies from the spotlight, and is quite mum about his earlier days.
He is like the uncatchable serial killer that he so vividly writes about in his novels. As his novels progress, the reader becomes more aware of who the killer is. Similarly, little by little information about Harris has been revealed about his life.
Thomas Harris was born in Jackson, Tennessee, to William and Polly Harris but moved to Rich, Mississippi, his father’s hometown, early in his life. He attended Lula Rich school through the tenth grade, at which time he transferred to Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Mississippi.
It was not until the last semester of his senior year that he transferred to Clarksdale High School, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where his mother taught biology.(Edwards). After high school, Harris went to Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he pursued a major in English and worked as a reporter for the Associated Press.
Also, while attending Baylor, he met fellow student Harriet whom he married. They had one daughter, Anne, before they divorced in the 1960s. That's as much as we know about his early days. But what we really want to know about are his books, right?
It was after he returned from Europe working for the Associated Press, that he gathered the material to write his first book, "Black Sunday", about counter-terrorism which provided him with a beginning start before he broke out with his intro into Hannibal Lecter in the book, "Red Dragon", with profiler Will Graham who worked with Hannibal Lecter to catch the Tooth Fairy before he struck again.
The introduction of Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter paved the way for what is Harris’s great work "The Silence of the Lambs", which was a runaway success for Harris. "The Silence of the Lambs" was resoundingly successful and is one of only three films ever to sweep the ‘Big Five’ awards at the Oscars (best film, actor, actress, director and screenplay) and in the mid-nineties the American Film Institute named Lecter as the greatest villain in US cinema history.
Thomas Harris still continues to work on his writing. He is actually a rare bird in that he was a HUGE success with 5 bestsellers and his sixth book is doing moderately well. He says that it is a very intense effort that must be endeavored on a daily basis (when he is working on a novel). He enjoys his privacy and lives with a domestic partner partner, Pace Barnes in his home in FL.
Thomas Harris's Hannibal series has had a profound impact on the crime fiction genre, and his influence can be felt in countless works of fiction since their publication. His vivid characters and dark storytelling have
captured the imaginations of readers around the world. Harris's works are essential reading for anyone interested in the genre, or just in search of a gripping, page-turning read.

In last month's newsletter, I posted a question about how many books did Connolly have in the Charlie Parker series? The newsletter mentions how many languages his works were translated into. No one answered this question so it is just unanswered. I guess I chose a too obscure author or my newsletter format was off. For either one, I apologize.
This month's newsletter is about best selling author and former journalist Thomas Harris. The newsletter question asked what person close to Harris has a name that rhymes with Molly? The newsletter mentions the number of books that he is famous for. The person who comments the answers to the name question as well as the number of books will receive a MB from me.
