If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more.”

It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

Letter from the editor

It's been a long, cold, and dark winter. During this time of year, many people, including myself, suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD makes the coldest and darkest time of year worse, because it causes depression. Sometimes we don't know precisely why we are depressed, we just know we're depressed. I've found two things that help me deal with the SAD time of year.

First is gratitude. Say a prayer of thanks to whichever one of God's names you worship. Say thank you to the universe for another day of life or a fresh cup of coffee. Say thank you to your partner or your pet, for their presence in your life.

Second is generosity. Contrary to popular opinion, one doesn't have to have a lot of money to be generous. This is because there are different levels of prosperity. Some of us have more money than time, while others have more time than money. Determine what your level of prosperity is and share the excess.

Where does your prosperity lie? In your time or in your talent. Do you have more clothes in your closet than you can wear? Clean out your closet and give some of the excess clothing to charity. Are you a good cook? Fix a meal or several meals for an elderly individual who has difficulty cooking. All of us can find something we can share with our fellow human beings, even if it is only our time.
