Consolation Prize

Let's say you're holding a contest, and only a few people enter. Do you give out the prizes or just give a consolation prize? This is something important to think about when creating your contest. If it's not a well known contest, an off season, or difficult to enter, think about how you're going to handle a low submission count.

*Bulletp* If you're giving out three prizes, and only two enter, state what you'll do with the third prize.
*Bulletp* Will you be handing out consolation prizes for those not winning the big prizes?
*Bulletp* If you decide to extend the deadline, do those entering on time get a bonus?
*Bulletp* Are you going to email those who took the time to write and enter, a thank you?

Hopefully, you'll get lots of participation from creating an interesting contest, promote it well and encourage those thinking about entering. Sometimes one can be a little nervous venturing into new writing territory.

In all, make sure not only are your rules clear, but be clear with how your prizes will be distributed and when.

Enjoy!

Leger~

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (March 13, 2024) question: Have you tried anything new lately?

Beholden : Constantly. Poetry especially demands that I let the work decide where will go this time.

TheBusmanPoet : Yes I have. I tried regrowing my hair to no avail. *Facepalm*

D. Reed Whittaker : Songwriting in the absence of any musical training. Poems to not always make good lyrics. Lost a few battles, but have not given up the fight.

Elisa the Bunny Stik : Trying something news is how I spent most of 2023. I ended up exhausted.

Maribel is a Dancing Poet : Yes! Baking loafs of bread; specifically banana bread, butternut squash bread, etc. Today, cranberry bread.

I'm actually enjoying it.

Khola Mousethyme : Focusing on my spirituality lately. Trying new meditation techniques. Also joined a crochet group. Want to learn new stitches. Changing around the craft room. Got new bedroom furniture coming. Lots of changes.

tj ~ endeavors to persevere! : I have, or am trying something new. I'm in the process of a new hair style, but it's going to take a while for it to grow out. I may also try something new with my beard.

Scarypotato-doing bettertoday : Yes I recently assisted in assembling and testing a 4ft wide TV antenna. Not rabbit ears, a full fledged thingamabob that looks like it belongs on a space station. My recommendation: don't try to watch the TV and hold the antenna at the same time. It's rather tiresome.

MagicIan : "Anything New Lately"

No, I can't say I've ever heard of such a product.

StaiNed-House Targaryen : I figured how how door bells work and fail.

Dad : I grew a beard. I wore a beard when I was in my 20s. Mom didn't like it because I let it grow big and bushy, so I shaved it off. I last wore it when I was about 30. Last Thanksgiving, I started it and after 2 days, talked it out with Mom. I promised to shave it on Christmas, and she accepted it as long as I keep it well trimmed and tight on my face, which is how I want it. So for now, it stays.

loststar3 : I tried actually doing homework and to stop failing I can say it’s a whole lot better than the constant anxiety of work and people stressing over me failing

Gaby ~ Keeper Of The Realm : Thank you for including "Game of Thrones with your picks! *Heart*
