It's that time of year when the decorations are retrieved from storage, shops play carols non-stop and a fever seems to attack people at large. Shopping, singing, decorating, cooking - it's a very busy time.

If you're new here to Writing.com, you've certainly chosen a fun and exciting time to join. The site is a platter of fun and good wishes.

What will be your tempter? A rich, satisfying story; a contest or three (they're low calorie so you can have more than one); perhaps you feel generous enough to pop a few pennies in Santa's pail (a.k.a. spend a few Gift Points in a Writing.com raffle); or perhaps you want to sample the many tidbits provided by polls, surveys, madlibs, word searches, crosswords, interactives, poetry, and more...much, much more!

Here's a few goodies to get you in the holiday spirit. *Delight*

I enjoyed this article, and find it useful.

I have found myself editing pieces I wrote years before. Who is it that said "A poem is never finished, just abandoned?"
tinman

Great! *Delight* Thanks for the sharing the cute quote, too.

Dear Puditat,

I really loved this issue. A friend of mine once told me to leave a piece for at least 3 years before attempting to edit. Unfortunately for most of us, the timeframe is just a little too ridiculous. However I have found that if you leave a piece for a while and then go back to read it, sometimes it seems as if you never wrote it, because the words feel so foreign.

I just wish I had more time on my hands so I could use all I've learned so far.

Thanks again and best wishes.

Time, time, time - it always runs away on me. *Wink* Three years is a little extreme, and not very good if you ever want to make any money from writing. But distance does bring focus and a clearer vision. Best of wishes.

An excellent article today. The creation is the easy part between me and my poetry. But I spend all of my time editing, sometimes to no avail. It's especially hard to get all of the words to flow right so that there are no sore thumbs. But that means being able to strike words from the written page, saving them, as you suggested for future use, and having the ability to step back and really examine what has just been written. This talent is not shared by everybody, but can be developped.

Thanks for a brilliant Newsletter

Thank you, Alfred. *Blush* Editing is definitely a skill, and one that develops the more you do it. So get out there and edit. *Wink*

What a wonderful newsletter ! Your editorial is terrific and such a helpful reminder to those of us who write poetry. I'm going to keep your checklist and refer to it often :) I appreciate the magnificent effort that must have gone into putting this newsletter together.
Congratulations ! You did a great job !
Warmest best,
