About This Newsletter

Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com. There are many things to do and learn. Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.

Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, lyrics, short stories, essays, campfires, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item (your writing) helps to bring you more rates and reviews by fellow members and the general public...of course depending on how much exposure you want your item to have. Some writers like to keep their work private. When your work does receive exposure, it helps bring more member interaction, which will give you the opportunity to build new friendships. Remember, it is a two-way street...try to make an effort to reciprocate reviews.

"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Letter from the editor

Hello Newbies!

I tell ya, I have never had Spring fever like I do this year. There is literally six feet of snow on the ground, I kid you not. I live in Maine and we have had snow on the ground since last November...I feel like an Eskimo! So, please allow me to indulge in an early Spring poem.

I don't know about you...
I am ready for spring
Time of new beginnings
Tulips, lilacs and daffodils
Flourish in the morning chill
Oh, what a beautiful view!
Birds flying from the south
Chicks calling with open mouths
Nesting and singing in the trees
Such a happy glee!

So I say...
Enough winter boots and snowsuits
Sandals and swimsuits will substitute
Take the time for a nature walk
Write about what you see and hear
Write about goals to achieve this year
Enter a contest with an exciting prompt
Writing exercise helps your muse surmount
The difficulty of writer’s block.

Don’t procrastinate...
Get on the ball
No spending time at the mall
Buy yourself an expensive pen
Organize your own writing den
Make your writing a reality
Only you can believe
Writing is not just a dream
It is something you will achieve.

For many writers, Scheduled Writing is a must! Writing on a whim or having your muse in-check whenever you need is a writer's dream, and unfortunately, doesn't work that way...many of us need to write on a schedule.

Ask & Answer

I like what you have to say about dialogue. To me, this is a key factor for anything I read, write, or listen to. If it isn't natural, it isn't realistic. Sometimes I think my brain is like a mini-recorder, taking in conversations from people of all ages for me to mimic later on, lol! Hey, now, wouldn't that be great if we could actually do that??? Push RECORD in our head and then play it back later for reference. Wow. Now there's a story idea for a Sci-fi writer!
