Why do YOU write romance?


It's a simple question. Why do you write romance stories? Yet it's a very complex answer, even for the most seasoned writer.

Romance writers write for different reasons. Some are simple, like they want to be rich and famous. Other reasons are harder to define. But one thing is certain. Romance is a big part of their answer.

Think about your reasons for writing romance. Why do you do it?

Money?
While money is nice, it isn't the best reason to write romance, or any other type of stories. Writing for money can take time, even years, before a writer starts to make any money at their craft. It can be frustrating to say the least, and in some cases, can make the writer quit before they ever make the "big time".


Fame?
Like money, fame can be fleating for the romance writer. Being published is a wonderful feeling, but it doesn't guarantee fame. Even being published by a large publishing house doesn't guarantee fame. Fame takes a lot of work on the writer's part to make it happen.


Love?
Now this is a good reason to write romance stories. Because you love romance. Loving what you do, no matter what it is you do, is what makes the romance writing world go round.*Bigsmile* Honestly, I think that a love of writing should be the reason all writer's write. What good is putting words to paper if you can't stand doing it? You might as well find another hobby if you don't like to write.

Need more reasons to write romance? How do these sound?

*Bullet*You love happy endings.

*Bullet*You have the perfect hero and heroine in mind and they talk to you every single day.

*Bullet*You love to create the perfect romantic moments, again and again and again.

*Bullet*If you don't write romance, your head will explode.

Okay, maybe that last one won't happen.*Laugh*

Then again, there have been times I've had to stop everything I was doing and write. And every one of those times it felt like my head would explode if I didn't, so maybe that is a good reason to write romance.

Regardless of your reason, if you have romance in your heart, and a plot in your head, then get off your duff and get writing. You'll be glad you did.*Bigsmile*

Thank you dear Darkin, for the feature. I don't think I looked at this in a long time and it's time for a rewrite or some major changes...what a few years can do, when looking back *Laugh*.
I love your NL - wouldn't miss it for the world.
I have the same pet peeve - when it comes to children. That is a real no, no. Thanks for the great read.

Children! What a great idea to add conflict to a romance novel! I agree with your pet peeve of a hero or heroine leaving their children with a new love interest. The situation can create an interesting trust issue with another place for conflict to arise between main characters. Great newsletter! *Smile*

It's funny how many movies and books there are following the baby plot complication you mentioned - and funnier still how easily they can be broken into three subcategories. I never thought of it that way! *Smile*

I agree. Children do add a new level of tension and potential for discord but they can also become the Achille's Heel for the Hero/ine in any action romance. Great points to keep in mind! *Bigsmile*
