About This Newsletter

Reading a horror story, one that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page, is what every horror fan dreams of. Being scared, to the point that sleep is almost impossible, makes the read all the more worthwhile. Does that make us crazy? You bet!!!

My name is Darkin, and I’m your host this week for the Horror Newsletter.

The Long and Scary Road

What is so scary about a dark, lonely stretch of road? Is it the desolation, the darkness, or the feeling of moving toward the unknown? Perhaps it is all of those things, and a bit more.

I think it's because anything can happen while you're on that stretch of road.

Dark, lonely roads are very popular horror plot vehicles. From Mrs. Todd's Shortcut by Stephan King to Among the Missing by Richard Lymon, the lonely stretch of highway has terrified readers far and wide.

Your horror road doesn't have to be a highway. There are so many different types of roads, as many as there are writers and readers. Highways, side streets, and back roads are only a few, all of which can be quite scary when you don't know where you're going. So start your engine and see where your road takes you...you might just find a scary tale along the way.*Bigsmile*

Personally, I love driving along a lonely stretch of highway. I like being all alone, just me and my car, not knowing what is on the horizon. Probably why I love reading horror stories in the first place, the not knowing what's going to happen next.

Maybe you all will write me a horror story about a lonely stretch of road...something I can sink my reading teeth into???

Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!

That was a nice newsletter about clowns. I'm not afraid of clowns myself, but I know a lot of kids who are. The clowns I've encountered were not too weird though; I even met one who was pretty sarcastic in his jokes. The kids didn't understand him, but the adults were roaring with laughter. Thanks for the newsletter and more power!

Dear Demon Squirrel,
To me, clowns are funny. But I know some of us have a phobia about them. Thanks for featuring my work and for another awesome newsletter.

I enjoyed reading this newsletter. My oldest daughter, who just turned 30, has been afraid of clowns since she was a toddler. She doesn't even like pictures of clowns.

LOL....scared of clowns, yep lots of people out there like that. And your list of reasons makes your fears very logical. Of course I am strange and enjoy the feeling of fear, the adrenline hitting my veins, so cool. So typically when I feel fear I will go for it; the only exception to this is swimming in the ocean...I am only gettin up to my waist out there; something about being toward the bottom of the food chain.

Thanks for the insightful look of why some are scared of clowns, oh and p.s. thanks for including my Last Ride story in your newsletter.

Until We Read Again

For me, the reason clowns are so scary is that I can't tell their real emotions... With all that makeup, they appear to be happy and harmless, but who knows what lies behind the mask!*Shock* (I have a fear of anyone in costume, really...) *Laugh*
