Have you ever wondered how this legend of Valentine’s Day came to be? Upon my research, I actually found a few different versions of the tale, however, there is only one that I particularly want to believe (so I’m throwing my belief onto you –you can check out the other theories through a ton of websites).

The Roman Emperor, Claudius II, was involved in many gruesome conflicts but had a difficult time getting any men to follow him into battle. He believed it was due to not wanting to leave their loved ones, so he cancelled any and all engagements and marriages. A Roman priest, Saint Valentine and St. Marius, in 269 A.D., believed this to be a huge injustice and continued to marry young lovers in secret. When this ‘betrayal’ was discovered, St. Valentine was sentenced to be beaten with a beheading.

While St. Valentine waited for his sentence to be carried out, he fell in love with a young girl – whom may have been the jailor’s daughter – who visited him during confinement. It is alleged that Valentine wrote her a letter signing it ‘From your Valentine’, making this the first ‘valentine’ ever written.

Now with this kind of legend, a hundred stories can be woven from this – again, using real life to fit into your stories.
And with Valentine’s Day being this weekend, why not write up a quick story for your Valentine to show just how passionate you are for them.
