Quote
It is necessary to write, if the days are not to slip emptily by. How else, indeed, to clap the net over the butterfly of the moment? For the moment passes, it is forgotten; the mood is gone; life itself is gone. That is where the writer scores over his fellows: he catches the changes of his mind on the hop.

~Vita Sackville-West

Capturing the Moment

Have you ever had an idea and then couldn't remember it later? It's so frustrating! But it doesn't need to be.

I can't tell you how many times while riding in a vehicle I've been hit with ideas. I've learned to always bring a notebook and pencil and pencil sharpener with me on any excersion, short or long. I might not pick it up at all, but more times than not, I do. On our last trip, while doing a cryptogram, an idea hit me like a ton of bricks. I already had my pencil in hand, so I traded my puzzle book for the blank lined paper and wrote away. I love it when I get inspired suddenly, out of nowhere. That's why it's so important to bring paper and a pencil with you wherever you go, if possible.

The leader of our writing group told me she brings a pocket notebook with her when she walks her dogs. It's something many of us might not think about, but once you make it a habit, you'll find it can be useful! She started doing it because she had come up with some good ideas but couldn't remember them by the time she arrived home.

Ideas spring up everywhere. If it's inconvenient to carry a notebook, think about a small recording device. Sometimes it just isn't feasable to get your inspirations down on paper or recorder. It's a chance we take. But if possible, find ways to help yourself remember your idea(s). I might go as far as borrrowing a pen from someone and writing down a few words on the palm of my hand!

In our busy world today, there's much to inspire us but timing is not always convenient. At least stick a blank piece of paper in your pocket and one of those mini-pencils, just in case an idea springs up in the middle of nowhere. You might not have enough paper to write a book, but at least you'll remember your terrific idea! Capture that moment.

Have a wonderful week!!!

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,
Cubby ")

If Only I Knew Myself
by M.E. Moeller

Excerpt: Wiping her hair from her face, I notice myself mimic her, her exact movements are mine. Or are they hers? Who is she? I cannot take the uncertainty any longer. Jumping into her view sporadically, I wave my arms above my head and shake my legs underneath me. A certain jumping-jack form. A smile appears on her face. Is she laughing at me? What does she see? I cannot tell.
