Be Prepared!


I'm “typing” this Newsletter using my Wii video game system, after my laptop suddenly crashed last week. This unexpected event has taught me an important lesson about being prepared!

Currently, I run a reviewing activity ("Invalid Item" ) and I'm judging a round in "October Novel Prep Challenge" . Upon learning I'd be computerless for a while, I let participants, hosts, and co-judges know about my situation.

Communication is very important, especially when others are depending on you. It's a good idea to have a back-up plan in case you find yourself suddenly apart from Writing.Com.

First, assess how long your time away will be and if you will be able to connect intermittently. There are many alternate ways to access the internet (phones, video game syrtems, libraries, internet cafes, schools & universities, friends & family computers), but be sure you have access regularly if you plan not to disrupt your contest or activity.

Again, communication is key. If you're not able to notify participants of your absence, perhaps you have a way of contacting a fellow member offline. If not, be sure to explain once you find your way back to the site.
