Letter from the editor

Writing.Com is a great resource for writers of all levels! Whether you're a blogger who dabbles in a bit of poetry, or a person who likes to peruse forums, or a browser who spends more time reading for inspiration, there is something for everyone!

The best part about Writing.Com is that you can experience the community without having to pay anything for your membership, and you even get to have up to 10 items in your portfolio without having to upgrade your membership! Of course, there are limitations to the item types you can create, as well as the things you can do around the site, with that free membership. Whether or not you have considered upgrading, here are the advantages to having an upgraded membership:

*Star* Your static item size limit increases, depending on your upgrade level. You would not get the item size limit increased with a basic upgrade, but a standard upgraded membership sees an increase from 50K (50,000 characters) all the way to 200K (200,000 characters).

*Star* Create up to 10 book items with a standard upgrade, and have a blog. Blogs are a great way to connect with other writers on this site! There is even a group dedicated to blogging ("Between the Lines (Retired) [18+]) so writers, bloggers, and readers can network, inspire, and support one another.

*Star* You can create folders with a standard upgrade! This might not seem like much, but it helps others to navigate your portfolio if they know when they open a static item whether or not they're reading poetry or a short story (as defined by those folders in your portfolio).

*Star* Create as many message forums as you'd like with a standard upgrade! Then you can have a message forum for any topic you'd like, and the only limit you have is your portfolio item limit.

*Star* You will be able to have images in your portfolio, as well as display them in your signature and within items. It will help add interest to your portfolio, which is a helpful tool in grabbing your readers' attention.

*Star* Host cNotes in your portfolio! You and other Writing.Com members will be able to send them and brighten someone's day! The best thing about cNotes is that it generates Gift Point revenue for you, which can help you maintain your upgrade with little-to-no money out-of-pocket.

*Star* Receive summary statistics for your items. Summary statistics are a great resource if you are interested to know how many people are looking at your items, broken down by day, for the past two weeks.

*Star* Extended statistics allows you to see who is looking at your items, in terms of demographics, and what those demographics are rating your item. This helps you better determine if your target audience is enjoying your items, as intended!

*Star* Create passkeys on your items! Let's say you have a work-in-progress that you aren't really ready to share with everyone, yet, but you'd like a few friends to take a look at it. With a passkey, you can keep the item private, but allow your friends to view the item and offer their input without opening the item up for public consumption.

*Star* You're able to access Scrolling Messages. This is an invaluable tool for networking with other writers on this site. You can share ideas, links to your items, or anything else (within reason, of course) in Scrolling Messages, as well as make new friends and even find inspiration in a conversation!

*Star* No more ads or popups! You'll also find that the site navigation becomes significantly faster with a standard upgraded membership.

*Star* Enter official Writing.Com contests! These contests usually have a higher gift point payout or prize than many of the other contests hosted by members around the site. Not only that, but think of the bragging rights just for winning a site-hosted contest!

*Star* And last but not least, your upgraded membership helps support Writing.Com and help it to improve and grow!

If you were on the fence before, I hope I've convinced you how much you could gain by upgrading! Many of the tools that become available to you with an upgraded membership are invaluable in helping you to write, network, and even make the site faster for you as a whole. Purchase an upgrade with Gift Points by clicking on your Gift Point amount on the left hand sidebar, or by going to http://www.writing.com/main/my_gifts/tab/shop or purchase an upgrade in the Writing.Com store by going to Shop > Paid Memberships, or by going to http://www.writing.com/main/shop/cat/Memberships
