Campfire Creatives!

Imagine sitting around a campfire with a group of your friends. The leader of the campfire begins a story that is then passed around the group for their input. With up to 25 participants, you never can tell where these are going to lead!

What you see above is the description given by the website for Campfire Creatives. Along with Interactive Stories, Campfire Creatives are one of the very unique ways that Writing.Com allows us to write collaboratively with other members of the site. Unlike Interactive Stories, however, I think the campfires are unique in that they are set up by invitation only. The stories tend to have a lovely flow, as they are truly a collaborative project between several writers.

How the campfires work:

The writing is set up in a rotation with those participating. You can have up to 25 people contributing to the campfire, and when a person's turn comes, they will have a certain amount of time to add their own contribution before it'll go to the next person. (In other words, if a friend goes out of town for two weeks, the campfire doesn't grind to a halt - those still around can keep it going.)

When it is someone's turn, they receive an email, so they won't miss it by accident.

You can keep going forever, if you want to! Or you can bring the story slowly to a close while working together.

The creator of the campfire is responsible for setting up certain parts of the story, so those others contributing may know where to begin or continue.

I intend to start a campfire creative so you can see what it's like! If you all would like to take part, feel free to send me an email, and I'll add you in. I'll set up the campfire(s) within the next few days, and add any interested. Now remember, I can only take 25 per campfire, but if I need to make more to accommodate everyone, I will! *Smile* I'd love to write with you.

Ask & Answer

From my last newsletter "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (September 14, 2011)

V. Andrew writes, "This really made me want to write something that made me feel true passion and to put that passion into everything I write. Thank you!" "Invalid Item

How cool! You now have it linked in the newsletter. *Smile*

PenBandit writes, "I don't know if i have a passion for something or someone, i once had, but now no more...
That means i can't write? O.o"

Now, now... I didn't say that. My newsletter spoke specifically about those wishing to write with great passion. When wanting to show passion in your writing, it helps to write about something that you are passionate about.

billwilcox writes, "Who better to write about passion than SaraJean. Yeah, baby! *Smile*"

I've always been one of your biggest fans, W.D. Thanks for your constant support. *Smile*

allegroconbrio writes, "I'm normally not an avid writer - I personally find contests such as the Writer's Cramp intimidating because there's no way I can write something interesting in such a short period of time... unless it deals with foreign languages or linguistics (two of my favorite subjects). This item is my very first entry to the Cramp involving a genie who speaks only German. I never thought I'd ever enter this contest, but the prompt for this past day really sparked my interest and, well, here's my entry! I hope you enjoy it." "Invalid Item

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your first entry! The Writer's Cramp can, admittedly, feel a little stressful - but man does it feel awesome when I'm able to get a story out of my fingers in such a short amount of time.
