*Flower2* My NotePad: 101 *Flower2*

Just what is a note pad used for? I have paper notebooks all over the place that I write down ideas in for future stories and poems. If I really feel creative, I even begin a piece (and if I'm lucky, perhaps I'll finish one, too!). For those of you that have not noticed before now, there is a note pad you can use here on Writing.com for exactly the same sort of thing. *Smile* First of all, go to Member Tools under Site Navigation at the upper left of your window. Click and scroll down to My NotePad.

What now? *Confused* You have two options right away. Are you scribbling down notes to keep, or are you just experimenting on how something might look, such as with WritingML Tags in a review? If you only want to preview something and not save it, click on ScratchPad. Enter whatever you want and then click Submit/Store. Remember, the ScratchPad will NOT save anything, but by submitting, it will show a preview of what you entered. *Cool* Cool, huh? *Bigsmile* Once you click on the ScratchPad again, anything you typed will disappear... forever! Okay, so you want to save something. First of all, you need to click on New Page. You will notice above the empty window NotePad Name and in the little box, Default. *Shock* Yikes, what's that??? If you leave it the way it is when you save your work, your saved page will be labeled Default. It's best if you change it to something that will remind you what page you have saved, such as Story Draft or something a bit more creative. That way, when you save it, the title will appear under your note pad's My NotePad Navigation. *Note1* Anything stored there will not be saved in your Portfolio as an item. You will have to go into your note pad to get to it.

All in all, it's pretty easy. Just go in and mess around with it and you'll get it in no time. And remember, you can always change or add anything to your saved pages by clicking on the title. You are not limited to only one page either. You can save up to 25 pages with up to 20,000 characters maximum per page! *Shock* And if you ever want to delete a page, all you have to do is click on the page you choose to toss, scroll down below the window, check the box next to Check to the left to delete this notepad page and then click: Delete. Once you hit the delete button, that page will disappear... forever!

Now... go have some fun and experiment with My NotePad.

Love,
Cubby ")

Excerpt: What a treasure this cloth is, for upon it is a map. A right jolly old pirate map with the skull and cross bones, a small red x marking something important. Notes of sharks and such are scribed in the margins and a large area in what would be the western portion is colored a deeper shade of blue with the word ‘Atlantis’ marked on it (isn’t that a myth?). There is a scribble next to it that states ‘Only Fools Tread Here’ and the initials CVS. Most fascinating, it is so detailed you can almost see the palm tree’s on the little islands swaying in the breeze; and is that ship moving across the water? No, must be the lighting and the anticipation playing pranks again.

Excerpt: His right leg had a limp and he dragged it feebly behind him. In his other hand, he carried around a tall thick branch, widdled into a spiralling staff, with notches and faces carved into it looking like souls trapped inside of the wood. The small bits of gravel crunched under his feet. He looked innocent. The most innocent, most pure, most child-like thing that clearly wasn’t a child. There were no heavy burdens on his back, or his novelty sized pockets sagging from insufferable weight. Just a book and a staff, which helped him, walk. If it were not in the twentieth century that this story takes place, one may think that he was some sort of a wizard. If he was or wasn’t didn’t matter. What did matter was that he was sure to bring an air of mystery to Eshmore that it would never again be able to shake off. Especially when he would be found sleeping under the Robert’s apple tree in their back yard the next morning.

Excerpt: The train shuddered to an abrupt halt, and the carriage doors were violently thrown open, letting piercing white sunlight flood in. I swept my four-year-old brother, Christoph, into my arms, from where he had been hovering around my feet. I turned to my father and mother, whose faces were pale and solemn. My mother managed a weak smile and held out her arms to take my brother, and I obligingly shifted Christoph into her grasp. My father was silent. I turned back to the open doors but stood close by my family.

Excerpt: He turned at the tone of Daniel's voice. There, before them, was a trail in the sand. Not footsteps, but more like something huge, no, make that enormous, had dragged its bulk along, gouging a deep rut in its wake. He looked around, but the trail disappeared into a break in the cliff. The wind had probably covered it up. He hoped whatever had left this trail, wasn't coming back.

Excerpt: Jones awoke from his dream gasping for air. The beeping had become so fast and loud that it just sounded as one long and continuous beeeeeeep! Dazed and confused he looked around for the source of the noise. It took several seconds for him to even recognize where he was. Then he realized that it was the alarm on the radar gun that was going off. He pawed at the power switch on the side of the radar gun, but it was already in the off position. Vaguely, he remembered that the radar gun had been malfunctioning. He ran his hand along the power cord and confirmed that it was not plugged in. As he looked up, he noticed the digital display on the radar gun. It read “1099”. One thousand and ninety-nine miles per hour.
“What the…,” he choked.

Excerpt: At that moment I realized I still held the photograph of her son! I raced to the other exit up in the front, figuring that was the only other way out and, at her age, how fast could she move? But she wasn’t there. Nor was she outside because I took a quick jog around the entire building to no avail. She had, quite simply, disappeared.

Cubby,

Opening this May 19 Noticing Newbies Newsletter until today, I see that my next one from you is already in the box. I wish I had opened it the 19th, I could have used your comment on my feedback. I have had one encouraging writing thing after another happen since then. I am no closer to a payday but well on my way. I even picked up some speaking gigs today that will pay freewill offerings.

I do have a request (bear in mind, I have four weeks of NNN in my mailbox and someone may have covered it. But after two and a half here, I would really love to learn how ot use MyNotePad!*Blush**Pthb*

I printed out the WritingML tag cheat sheet and keep it in a clear plastic report protector within reach of my keyboard!! In two and one half years I have some of them memorized, but I still rely on it a great deal when reviewing!!

I'm sure you may have noticed, I based this week's theme around your request. *Bigsmile* I hope you find it helpful. Just email me if you have any problems with it. Are you caught up with all your NNNs yet*Laugh*

Good point, Cubby. Afterall, a writer isn't a writer if she has nothing to say.

My favorite quote: ""Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires..." Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy page 1

Very nice quote, Megsie. *Smile* Thank you for sharing it with our readers.
